80 yrs old and was getting ready for another world tour, Crazy!
I read an interview years ago where Charlie was asked. "what was the secret to his long marriage..he said "Separate bathrooms"
Lmao!
He always had that look on his face. You know, Sitting there behind his kit watching the circus going on in front of him..

Ringo has to be sad. Those two were comrades back then. Charlie never looked like he fit into the group….esp. posters. Of course, he was a key contributor. 80 ! Not bad for a rocker !

Charlie's demeanor on stage was part of the charm of seeing The Stones. When I saw them at Giant's Stadium in 1994 it really was a circus going on all around him. Mick prancing and preening and running around and climbing huge scaffolding around the stage, Keef standing there scowling and constantly taking a drag on his ever present cigarette, giant inflatable monsters blowing up behind the stage, computer generated graphics on a giant screen, laser beams...And with all that going on good, ol' reliable Charlie just stoically banging out a steady, consistent beat.
Like John Hiatt sings in "Slow Turning" "...and I'm yellin' at the kids in the back cuz they're bangin' like Charlie Watts" followed by a couple isolated snare shots.
RIP Charlie.

It's hard to believe he passed away before Keith Richards.
R.I.P. Charlie Watts.

Or pretty much any of the other Stones.

Keith Richards is a living marvel. Considering the life he’s had and the decades of drugs… And he’s not a fitness guy like Mick. He just walks around with his cigarette hanging from his lip.
