I had the Panther cassette many many moons ago. I do think Soto is a tremendous singer. In fact, I hated Malmsteen for not keeping him. It went downhill for Malmsteen from there. To me....Malmsteen became a showboat act - like a divorcee remarrying 3-4 times. Soto could of brought Malmsteen to VH status. But as we all know ....Malmsteen is a total egotist. Way worse that David Lee Roth. Soto deserves praise - in the Metal archives - for sure. Agreed. He is somewhat of a Metal Mercenary! Ha ha. One that the average music fan doesn't know about. If Yngwie had swallowed some pride and stuck with Soto, he could have hit loftier heights as it was his formative years when JSS was there and it was "the" time to cement your legacy. That Panther disc is great and I have probably listened to it a dozen times this year on youtube, but, I just can't bring myself to spend $20-25 (by the time tax and shipping is factored in) on a single disc in a cheap plastic case anymore. I can get a 2 lp set of a fave artist for that price. | |
