Non-music stuff that's getting cancelled/postponed:

NBA, NHL, WWE Smackdown, F1 GP in Australia... the world is grinding to a halt.

Time to... read books? What do we do for entertainment?

In the three days I've been working from home due to this pandemic, I've started putting a nice dent in my Amazon and Netflix watch lists Very Happy

The NCAA has cancelled the mens' and womens' March Madness basketball tournaments.

New York City just shut down any and all gatherings of more than 500 people which means no concerts, sports events, Broadway plays, etc.

...so if we all gotta stay home there'll be nothing to watch!

Yeah, I don't like movies. I'm a sports guy.

At least there's the PGA Players Championship this weekend. Beyond that, who knows.

I'm going to work normally. Kids go to daycare etc. Might change next week. If kids stay home, I'm going to have to as well. Or my wife. I'm not going to call for my parents to watch the kids. I hear this virus is especially dangerous to the elderly.

Baseball canceled the rest of spring training and delayed the start of the season by at least 2 weeks.

NHL "paused" their season.

This whole thing really sucks.

This is exactly the scenario that our Prime Minister has given for not closing the schools yet, mixing kids (who traditionally are the biggest carriers because they tend not to follow safety instructions too well) and the elderly is something that they are keen to avoid.

There are no good options. But looking after the vulnerable has to be the priority. I'm pretty much resigned to getting it now and hope that I'll just get a nasty bug rather than something more serious.

That's kind of where I'm at too.  Just let me get the damn thing already, be sick in bed for a few days then come back to life.  I had the first cold I've had in about 5 years last month and that thing knocked me on my ass for 3 days.  So I'm all prepared to go through that crap again if I have to.

At least I only have to worry about myself and the cats; it would really suck if I had a proper family to also worry about.

This week's Smackdown is moving to the WWE performance center. I may watch just out of curiousity. No word yet on WrestleMania but Tampa might make them move it to a later date.

Yeah, no. You really don't want the covid-19. It's 35 times as bad as the influenza (flu). It hits your lungs and you can't breathe. Might permanently damage them. And if you get it while everyone else gets it, you might not get a hospital bed.

https://www.sciencealert.com/the-new-coronavirus-isn-t-like-the-flu-but-they-have-one-big-thing-in-common

Avoid it if you can.

In Italy, a nation with good healthcare, they are leaving people to die without treatment. It spreads too fast and is too dangerous.

https://www.politico.eu/article/coronavirus-italy-doctors-tough-calls-survival/

I read about an emergency room doctor who ended a shift in tears saying he had 3 patients on 3 beds and he had to choose between helping a 40-year-old, a 40-year-old with two kids and a 60-year-old, knowing the other two are likely to die left untreated. All the while having 15 people in the hallway, dying, waiting for one of the beds with a respirator to free up.

If containment fails, estimates of how much of the population get the virus range between 30%-70% of the population, and death toll will be in the millions. Tens of millions, Spanish flu style. And who knows if it stays in circulation if no vaccine is discovered. It might come back seasonally, killing a percentage of the population each year, shortening life spans. Roll the dice each year after you turn 60. So much for enjoying retirement. It also doesn't replace influenza, it's a different germ so it just adds to the death toll.

Containing the virus is not too hard in theory. The disease resolves itself in 2-3 weeks, and the infected person either dies or survives with no virus left in him. If everyone self-isolated, the virus would not exist after a month. It can only survive by passing itself on, and so far too many are spreading it.

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/487329-ohio-health-official-estimates-100000-people-in-state-have-coronavirus

That would be a mathematical estimate, I suppose.

Symptoms appear after 5-10 days, so the next two weeks should see a lot of people with the virus get the disease.

My company just now issued orders for everyone who has the capability to work from home to do so until further notice.

Fortunately for me I've already been working from home full-time for about 5 years.  But our whole state is now officially under a "state of emergency" as of an hour ago so now everyone is paying more attention.

It would be nice not to get it but our government's official policy is for 60% of the population to get infected spread out over time so they don't crash the health system. They say that this is the only way that we can get herd immunity. They want to isolate and protect the most vulnerable and most likely to die and let the rest of us get it.

So that's why I may be a bit more concerned/resigned than some of you.

The problem with self isolating is that the virus is transmitted before you start showing symptoms.

The "herd immunity" thing is why I'd just as soon get this, get over it and move on.  I've never had the regular flu as far as I know; just really nasty colds.  So if the odds are pretty good that I'm going to get Covid 19 then just get it out of the way already.  Then I'm done and can move on with life.

I'm an "old fart" but I don't think I'm THAT old that I need to worry about this disease.  I'll just get sick for a few days then get over it.  So let's get on with it.

AND stop hoarding toilet paper you stupid, idiot sheeple!  WTF??????  Why toilet paper???  Dumbasses!

It's not just the death rate. You may survive, but never be the same again.

https://nypost.com/2020/03/13/coronavirus-survivors-may-suffer-from-reduced-lung-function/

They have started to examine the first survivors. The covid works like a pneumonia basically, but stronger and damages your lungs and can scar your lung tissue permanently.

Funny coincidence. My wife is a doctor and she was telling me the exact same things. I am into sports and exercise a lot. Scary to know this virus can permanently affect the lungs.
