The St. Louis zoo is opening up soon and they are requiring everyone to wear masks.  If you don't have one, they are selling ones that feature the muzzle of various animals so that when you wear it you look like you have the nose and mouth of the animal.

If I find one that gives you the muzzle of a cat or even better a wild jungle cat I'll be all over it!

EDIT: ...And 30 seconds after I typed that I went to Amazon and to my surprise they have some.  Great, Amazon gets MORE of my money thanks to this damn pandemic!

Haha, that's cool. My daughter would definitely love that as she's a huge zoo fan. We have season passes to the Roger Williams zoo here in Providence, RI and we literally go year round. I have a few black breathable fabric ones I was given from work that are washable as well as a few medical ones I leave in the vehicles. My custom made Kiss one should arrive this weekend.

KISS must have an official one out, right? How are Gene and Paul not on this!

EDIT: never mind, they are of course. The KISS online store has three versions: the End of the Road tour image; the Destroyer album cover, and appropriately an "Unmasked" comic one. I'm going to order the Unmasked one.

This whole thing where people refuse to wear masks is really exposing how selfish people really are.

The intention is to help keep from people who may be carrying or infected with no symptoms from spreading it to other people. Yet the person being asked to wear a mask for 20 minutes at the grocery store is somehow being infringed on.

It'd be nice if the president also didn't mock wearing masks...but that's a lost cause at this point, so it's up to the people.

I will commend people though that I disagree with on pretty much on everything else in this entire world that are also asking people to wear masks, like Sean Hannity. This is probably the only time I will ever say this, but good on Sean Hannity.

And zombiehavok, you do know most of those masks people wear do absolutely nothing against catching a virus right? Their only purpose is to ease the minds of others, but do nothing else. The good ones help stop it, but those little flimsy cheep ones are nothing but a piece of mind for the masses.

And can you stop just once and keep your anti trump bullshit to yourself? It would be greatly appreciated.

Wearing the mask is not intended to keep you from catching the virus. It's intended to help not spread it to other people if you are carrying the virus.

And nah, it's pretty American to criticize our elected leaders for their shortcomings.

I did not throw a fit when conservative friends and family criticized Obama for eight years. I'm not trolling anyone or saying anything about anyone here, calling people here names, etc. If you don't like criticism about the president, I don't know what to say. Maybe you should get a thicker skin. Makes life a little easier.

I'm pretty sure they told people not to wear masks here in Finland. The masks with actual filtering capabilities.

Those face masks are only recommended for medical staff.

As for cloth face masks, the general idea is that they don't filter the virus so they are useless. They get moist when you breathe or touch them and spread germs more than prevent them, like the WHO has said. Also makes breathing harder for people with asthma or such.

Hand hygiene and social distancing is more effective and Finns are masters of social distancing, germs or no germs.

Either way the outbreak seems to be under control now:

Coronavirus - Page 26 Screenshot-20200527-185248

There's hardly any new cases and they say the only new ones are coming from Sweden (the border is still open).

Restaurants will open this weekend and limitations are lifted. We never had curfews or outdoor restrictions because most people in a pandemic are smart enough to keep a safe distance anyway (and we're generally not a very crowded country).

Not everyone agrees though:

I agree with Zombie on the mask thing; to me, not wearing one IS selfish.

The whole point of wearing a mask isn't to protect you, it's to keep you from potentially infecting others.  All a face covering does is keep you from spewing droplets all over the place when you sneeze, cough or even talk because that's the most common way this damn thing propagates.   Last I heard about 25% of COVID carriers are asymptomatic so just as a common courtesy to those around you it just seems like the civil and decent thing to do is to wear some type of face covering when you are out in public.

I now have 10 washable masks and always keep one in the car along with a canister of wipes just in case I end up having to go to a store or something unexpectedly.

Post a link from amazon, would like to take a look!

Fortunately before I ordered the thing I realized it was coming from China. Besides the ethical issue of ordering a mask from the place this thing originated, I've had bad experiences with ordering other stuff from that country so I passed. If I find a reputable place selling cat muzzle masks I'll post a link.

And like I said, most of the masks you see people wear are useless against a virus. You think if you cough or sneeze or talk to someone, that those cheap masks are going to stop anything? N95's will help, but most people don't have those, so it's pretty pointless. The best ones are the people wearing handkerchiefs, or the idiots wearing a mask below the nose. Talk about clueless!

Far as your political butthurtness goes, who cares if you didn't go off on your family or friends when Obama-lamm-A-Dingdong was president? It's not about me caring or not caring, it's just going old. This is a metal forum, you wanna cry about your hatred for trump or whomever you feel like crying about, then go find a political forum to do it on. 80% of your posts seem to be political, I come here to get away from the bullshit, but you never shut up about it.

A friend of my wife makes masks, so I got one with the AC/DC logo. It's not licensed or sanctioned by the band. She just happened to have material with the logo on it. Otherwise, I'd have gone with kittens or flowers.

I started looking more and more like the Geico caveman so I decided to start slicking my hair back a la Steven Segal in the 90s.  I actually did this before when I had a ponytail but that was decades ago.  But I think it looks better than the unkempt mop I have at this point.  And I still have the MUCH longer beard.

The Covid-19 isn't going anywhere. It is here to stay. But governments are relying on people's awareness now, when taking the decision to reopen.

This is where the risk lies. I don't believe most people will remain cautious for a long period of time.

I predict another deadlier wave of infection soon.
