Probably my favorite live album is Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey. I also wish there was a CD of 80 minutes of Jimi's stage banter. It is very calming.
My oldest son is 8 and really getting into music, specifically KISS, but a few others. One thing I find fascinating is how much he likes listening to the live stuff over studio stuff. As a kid getting into music, I was not interested in live albums at all, and was not really until I was in my 30s.
But him, if I'm playing a song he likes, he asks if there is an Alive version.
I really love live songs, but I won't say I like them over studio versions....mostly. like I said before I love it when the older bands go off and just make a three minute song into a twenty minute jam session. It's cool to read a kid that young likes them too.
I do remember when I was first getting into music, I liked the live albums because I was under the impression that when they said live, they meant live. No overdubs, no fixing mistakes, thought they were raw live recordings. Kinda bummed me out when I heard how doctored most of them are.
It was my idea when I was trying to form a band with my cousin, that we would only release live albums. We would write new music, then much like bands have CD release parties, we would have a new album played live party, record it and put it out as our new album.

Not a big fan of live releases in general. I did however enjoy the last Riot V and Slayer live outputs.

5. Judas Priest, Unleashed in the East 4. Dokken, Beast from the East 3. Kiss, Alive! 2. UFO, Strangers in the Night 1. Deep Purple, Made in Japan
And there are sooooo many more. Honorable mentions would be Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys and Y&T's live from the early 90's. And every Opeth live offering.

My last live CD I bought, last month in fact, was World Wide Live Scorpions. I really enjoyed it. 5 bucks. My next purchased concert cd - i think is going to be BULLET. Maybe Y&T - too.

Exactly. That's why I was absolutely hooked on collecting Led Zeppelin bootlegs via snail mail in the early 2000s. I had innumerable shows from the same tour with virtually the same setlist and every one of them offered a different listening experience.

That should be my number one pick. Not because it's a great album, but because I lost my virginity thanks to it lol Merry Christmas Jolie, and a happy New year to me!

Just read through everyone's lists from 2 years ago and not a dud in the bunch. If someone is bored, I would love to see a list of EVERYONES fav live albums all at once. I could probably change my opinion a zillion times just reading that list!!

I need to check out that live WASP as I'm late to the WASP party. For some reason I just never investigated the band until recently; no real reason, I just never bothered with the band.
I'm really surprised at how good they are. I've mentioned it in another thread somewhere that I was a fan when their first album was released, but never went any further with them up until a couple years ago. Really kicking myself for that. Been slowly working my way through their catalogue and have yet to find a weak album. I'm up to K.F.D. and one live album, In the Raw, and so far every single album n is damn good. Not sure why they lost so much popularity, because they should be every bit as big as Priest and Maiden IMO.

Revisit Headless Children over and over. Not the concept albums that followed, but you can see where they came from. One of the best albums of the 80's from anyone.
And, approach KFD from a different mindset. HATED that album for 20 years. Then I listened to the Downward Spiral, TWO, and then KFD. And understood what was up.

Headless Children is WASP's best album, IMO.

I went record shopping this morning and came back home with some albums, including 3 awesome live platters:
AC/DC Live 92 (already have it on Dvd). Blind Guardian Live (2cd). Scorpions Tokyo Tapes (simply perfect).

Just to chime in again. DOUBLE LIVE GONZO. That record seemed so honest. They told you upfront - all the locations they were recorded from. I wish more bands would do that. One entire concert ? I know it’s not true. Give me King Biscuit Flower Hour captures. Cheap Trick seemed like an entire actual concert. I think it’s one of the reasons we’re drawn to bootlegs. Especially with KISS in the late 70s. Aerosmith seemed authentic. We knew that was them.
