This song is average at best. Based on the two songs released so far, I can't imagine Michael will continue to tout this as Stryper's best album once the newness wears off.

I like the riffing throughout the song. It's a decent tune.

I don't know. That song is rather bland to me.

At this rate, I think this album was over-hyped with a controversial name but not so great content. When he said it was heavy and borderline "thrashy", I was thinking they would have done something along the lines of: The Way, Soldiers Under Command or Rock the Hell Out of You.

Exactly, way over-hyped. As someone who is a big fan of their last few albums, my excitement has plummeted precipitously since they started releasing these tracks.

I was also happy with the last two including the covers album. They were on a roll with those... this one seems like a disappointment.

This one was pretty boring. I have listened to it several times but can't remember anything about it (last time I listened was last night). Take It to the Cross was waaayyy better.
I can't quite make a judgment about the whole album based on this though and I can't say if it's overhyped or not.
For me their new albums have been like this:
No More Hell to Pay They hyped the album to heavens. The first single appeared and initially it was pretty boring too and only got better right before it ended. My expectations were super low. Then some site offered a free listen of the whole album and while the first two songs weren't that great the third track, Saved by Love, was amazing and the album didn't really let go after that at any point. What an amazing album that was! The hype was well deserved.
Fallen Again, they hyped this album to be even better than the last. Now with Yahweh I thought, holy wow, that song is amazing and this album must be amazing as well. I bought the album with big expectations and was disappointed. The first song was amazing and the last three were great too but all songs in the middle were mediocre at best.
Now with this new album, God Damn Evil, they are again hyping it up to even higher heavens. I love Take It to the Cross but Sorry has absolutely no staying power with me. So it's hard to make anything out of it yet. It could be a new No More Hell to Pay for me, but it also could be the new Fallen for me. I would definitely want it to me the new No More Hell to Pay.

Michael Sweet should be saying 'Sorry' for pimping the new album as Stryper's best and then releasing two below average songs as the first tracks to the public.
I've been a huge Stryper fans for years (my first gig every was Stryper), but I'm just not super excited for the new album after what I have heard. This will be the first time since THWTD that a new Styper studio album is not a first day purchase for me.

I heard the full album today. At certain parts the title track reminds me of classic Stryper stuff, so I'm kind of into that track even though the chorus is nothing to write home about.
Once you get past the opening "Take it to the Cross" it's pretty much a standard 2000s-era Stryper record, i.e. mid-paced melodic rock tracks with a ballad or two thrown in the mix.
Overall, I think this album will suffer--as predicted by many--from overhype. I would have a hard time picking any songs from this record to include in, say, a top 20 or 30 Stryper song list. That said, there's not that many songs that I actually dislike either. I find the vocals on "Take it to the Cross" and "Lost" a bit overbearing but that's my only complaint.

Wal-Mart sez they will not stock the new Stryper album due to "concerns" about its title potentially offending customers.
...see, maybe they should've taken MG71's advice and made a "Safe for Wal-Mart" version called Gosh Darn Evil.

But, but, but Michael said it was their best and heaviest album. It's not like every band's front man says that.

You've got to be kidding me. Given the content in everyday American media these days, Stryper's album title still risks offending people??

I guess this news would've been cause for concern 10 or 15 years ago, but given the overall decline of cd sales in general and the ease of on-line shopping, I don't see the concern. So some yokel out in the middle of Bumblef*ck, Oklahoma can't get it while shopping for Dale Jr. t-shirts and Cheetos. Big deal.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Shoot, I couldn't even find the new Judas Priest at Wal-Mart when it came out a couple of weeks ago. Seems like if you're not top 40 pop or country, your CD isn't getting rack space at Wally World anymore, no matter what your album title is.
Now, if Justin Timberlake had released a CD with all seven of George Carlin's "Words you can't say on television" in its title and he got stocked at Wal-Mart anyway, then Stryper might have had a legit gripe.

I think the last major metal release that Wal-Mart carried was the new Anthrax (unless you count Three Days Grace).
