Oh yeah, I used to have to drive I95 all the time when I lived in CT. And that was 20 years ago. Somehow I don't think it's gotten any better since then. the portion i drive in Delaware is not too bad but 95 is not only the interstate but it is also the speed limit Ever drive the NJ Turnpike? I swear it's the US version of the Autobahn. One time on my way to Maryland I was doing 80 in the far right lane because everyone else was flying past me. And now they're probably texting at the same time... Oy vey. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I do use my phone for talking. I do text as well. But I do think my phone going off a lot from texting tends to get on my nerves at times. | |

| Texting and driving is just as bad as drinking and driving far as I'm concerned. I'm a truck driver, and constantly see idiots on the road weaving all over the place. 99% of them are texting, the other 01% are probably drunk or shitty drivers lol
I've brought this up before on another site once, but I wish they would implement what our computers do in the tractors I drive. We have mini computers we use for trAcking our dispatches, and if the vehicle is in motion, you can't use them. Soon as you stop, they will unfreeze and then can be used again. I know they can do the same things with cell phones, and I hope they do one of these days. I hate that it has to come to that, because the last thing I want is more government control, but something has to be done. At the very least they need to disable the texting feature while the vehicles are in motion.
Anyways, far as the original topic is concerned, yes I still talk on the phone. Not as much as I used to, but Most of my friends live in other states, and I don't do a lot of texting.

| I don't like talking on the phone but I despise texting. We are slowly devolving into symbols and emojis and studies have shown it has very negative affects on us. | |

| The only person who ever texts me is my wife, and that's usually to tell me to pick up Chinese food on my way home from work, etc.
I never even look @ my cell while I'm in the car. It's either in my pocket or sitting on the passenger seat buried under my other work junk (laptop, lunch box, etc.) _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I don't talk much on the phone, but when I do, it's mostly mobile anymore. I never thought in a million years that I'd not use the house land-line, but no one calls the house anymore. And why would I get up to pick up the receiver to make a call when my cell's right here in my pocket? _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I lived there for 10 years and really have no desire to go back. that being said - learning to drive in NJ pretty much qualifies me to drive anywhere, maybe save NYC. _________________ | |

| ^^ I've lived in NJ my whole life and even *I* avoid the NJ Turnpike like the friggin plague.
The only boro of NYC I've ever driven in was Staten Island, cuz I went to college there, and S.I. is very "suburban" so it was familiar territory. Even then I refused to drive in Manhattan, Brooklyn, etc. With the buses and subways readily available in the other four boroughs, you don't need to drive in them anyway. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Its pretty bad all around. I will say though - it is mighty convenient to take conference calls from the car with running them through the sound system. _________________

| I Hate , HATE HATE HATE talking on the phone
ever since 2002 Ive loathed and despised the telephone, rarely will I willingly actually talk on the phone. Partially cuz of my hearing and partially because I feel like I can be more articulate if I am writing what I am saying as opposed to speaking. Just me though

True but it's more "labor intensive" so I'm all about banning texting while driving. Like I said before, if you want to text to communicate from home then more power to ya. But on the road it not only takes your attention off the road (like a lot of other things) but also at least one hand (and usually two from what I've seen). _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I use a Swipe keyboard so my texting is pretty quick and efficient.

| As much as I prefer texting to the fact it's more impersonal I am against texting and driving as well. When I meet up with people going the opposite direction on the highway that are texting I wanna honk at them but I'm afraid it would startle them and cause an accident. | |

I really think there should be a mandatory feature to turn off the keyboard function when the car is in motion. I do not normally advocate for a ton of rules but a lot of people seem to have left common sense at the door with regards to texting and driving. _________________

| It's even worse when you get work emails on your phone. You feel like you need to answer, but can't possibly do it, but it makes you feel guilty. Then you're like "stop being a p*ssy, just pick up your phone and type a short reply". And I drive a manual. So I'm like, shit no, it's stupid and it's snowing like hell.
And what about those WhatsApp messages? There's enough time to read your messages on a stoplight, but you can't answer. That function on the app that shows each user you've read the message but choose not to answer is the worst! The sender thinks you're being an ass to them if you ignore replying, when in reality it's just that you're stuck in the car for another 45 minutes, commuting home from work.
And it's your wife messaging: "WTF are you thinking leaving your socks on the kitchen floor?! ANSWER ME NOW!!!!"
