| I've recently started adding my collection to discogs. I already have most everything listed on a word document, but thought I would slowly add it to something better. Anyone else here use it? Or is there a better way to do it? Maybe a better site? Discogs seems okay, just not sure if what i am doing is really what it's there for. I don't plan on selling my stuff thru the site, I just wanted to get an idea of what my collection is worth. I figured it would be something for reference in case I croak so my wife doesn't get ripped off selling it later.

| If you are valuing vinyl then Popsike is the best as it shows what stuff has actually sold for and not just what someone wants for it. For Cd's I don't know of anything better. If you just want to list your collection then there are a few places. | |

| I'm on Rateyourmusic, click on my signature.
It has no use for selling or evaluating your collection, but it's a database and works quite well.

| Yep, I use RateYourMusic too. Discogs seems tailored more for towards sellers/dealers, while RYM is mainly for collectors who want to keep track of their stuff.. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I'm on discogs (MikeInFla) and enjoy the site. The cool thing about it is that is has almost everything ever released. Never tried RYM, may give it a shot. | |

Discogs does the same thing. It gives you a range of minimum, medium, and max price people are asking, and then I think I saw a price of what they have sold for also. Might look into it though, but I only have about a hundred vinyls compared to over a thousand cds.

Does it give values for stuff, or is just something to list your collection?

Does it give values for stuff, or is just something to list your collection? RYM has links to find releases on eBay and other sites, but as far as an on-site "price guide," no. It's a basic database to keep track of your collection. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I have bought an album from discogs before, was pleased as it was much cheaper there than anywhere else. Had someone message me asking if I would sell one that I had and i said no. I don't have anything for sale, it is just listed there because it is fun for me. Yeah I am easily amused i guess. | |

I´m on the Musik-Sammler.de database. https://www.musik-sammler.de/ It´s a German website. If you have added your collection, it looks like this. https://www.musik-sammler.de/sammlung/emskopp/ I´ve tried to put my collection to discogs, too, but if I want to look into my collection, it looks very chaotic. On Musik-Sammler, my collection is sorted alphabetically by the artists and within every artist by year. There are other features on this site: - market for selling/ buying CDs, LPs, tapes etc, - statics of your collection: for example: you have 1500 items from 400 bands proportions of the music-styles in your collection: f.e. 50% Rock/ 40% Metal/ 10% Comedy Top 20 Bands and you can see the 50 collections with the highest similarity to you collection - you can make a To-Buy-List - you can make other lists like: 100 best Metal albums for example - theres a discussionboard where you can do talk shop with other music nerds :-) - and there´s a feature: when you look album X, the site shows you, where you can buy the CD: Amazon and Marketplace, Ebay, JPC and EMP are shown. - you have a Jukebox: If you don´t know what you should listen to, you can push the button, and the Jukebox will choose (1-12) random album(s). - you can write messages to other users and others.

| Mega-ultra-necro-thread bump I just made my first-ever purchase from Discogs. (I've had an account there for a while, but never did much with it other than lurk and see how much some of my CDs go for in the marketplace!) Some of ya may know that I'm currently obsessed with collecting the Many Faces Of... series of 3-CD tribute album sets. I've been looking for the KISS volume in that series for a while and have had no luck finding it at any of my usual online CD-shopping sources, so today I finally said "Screw it!" and ordered it from a seller in Germany on Discogs (for whatever reason, there were no sellers in the USA with this particular item, unless I wanted the vinyl version). Now we play the waiting game... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I buy hard to find stuff there. Just yesterday I received Marshall Law's Warning from History and Heretic's Breaking Point (+ Torture Knows No Boundary EP) shipped from Brazil.
I think I have at least one more order coming from somewhere.
It's another nice option to have online.
I don't use it for cataloguing or selling myself. Maybe I should?

| Wow, since I posted this, I've been using it primarily to buy most of my music now. After looking up and adding all my cd's and records to my account, I discovered that Amazon sells a ton of bullshit bootlegs, so I try not to buy from them unless discogs is way overpriced for something. And yeah, it's a really good site to find the more rare stuff. Gotta pay for that shit though usually lol | |

| My Discogs order came yesterday - took about two weeks to come from Germany, which I guess is about average. Very pleased with how easy it was, will def be using this site more often. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Wonder how it starts the same, but goes higher than yours. Our collection seems to be about the same size pretty much. Kinda weird how they come up with the prices I guess.

(IMHDO) Those are pretty huge "appraisal" gaps between $11K-$30K & $11K-$43K respectively. Wonder what parameters they use? Is it what people are willing to pay others, what people want others to pay, an average of what people have paid over a certain timeframe, or the highest someone has forked over for something? _________________
