There's an Onion article whose headline sez "Parents' Record Collection Deemed Hilarious," which actually sums up my parents' taste in music pretty well
My Dad grew up in the late 50s/early 60s so he listened to a lot of Elvis and doo-wop/vocal groups, not much in the way of actual "bands." He also had a lot of records by the popular "cocktail lounge" performers of the day, i.e. Dean Martin, the Ray Conniff Singers, Burt Bacharach, Herb Alpert, etc.
Mom was a little hipper than Dad, she was into the Beatles early on and even when I was a kid in the early 70s I remember her listening to the singer/songwriter guys like Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, etc. By the end of the '70s she was listening to a lot of schmaltz like Olivia Newton John, Kenny Rogers, the "Grease" soundtrack, etc. though.
Between the two of them my parents had a fairly large record collection -- obviously my brother and I inherited their music-collecting bug. Thanks, Mom and Dad!!

Damn, your mom sounds exactly like mine. Every band you listed was in my mother's collection. She had me listening to Kenny Rogers, and Grease, Jim Croce. Thankfully my cousins step dad had better taste in music and he showed me AC/DC. My metal journey was started that day and put me on the Highway to Hell.

My dad loved Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. As far as bands go it would have been the Beatles.

After my Dad passed away, my Mom had my brother and I put a bunch of stuff in storage, including their combined record collection. We flipped through 'em for a while as we were putting them in a cabinet and said "Thank GOD we grew up to be metalheads!"

Yeah my mom is deaf now so she doesn't have her records anymore. I do wish she would have let me go through them first, before getting rid of them. She did have some decent stuff like the eagles, the doors, and of course the Beatles.

Probably this!
My dad loved brass bands, male voice choirs and classical music. In his younger days he did like Blondie and ABBA but I think that had more to do with his libido than his music preference

My dad's favorite band is either Metallica, Judas Priest, or Iron Maiden, depending on which day you ask him.

Honestly I have no idea and he prob doesn't either. He's 76 and prob likes any song from a hymnal. Back in the 80's I listened to Styx records all the time and he said they were pretty good. But I don't think he listens very much to music. I remember when I was a kid he would play talk radio or country radio in the car. Back when stuff like Eddie Rabbitt and Don Williams were big.

Nah, he's not the most internet-minded guy, haha. But he is the reason I enjoy metal so much, because he exposed me to Ride the Lightning when I was like 4 years old.

My dad was into Western and Country. Stuff like Don Williams, Charley Pride, Ferlin Husky, Merle Haggard, Roy Acuff, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, Eddie Rabbitt, George Jones, Hank Williams & Jr., Ronnie Milsap, Faron Young... that's what explains my love for Western and '70s-early '80s Country and the newer Outlaw stuff.

My father was into music at all, never played any, did not go to concerts. He hated my taste in music but he felt I was entitled to my own taste and life, and while he did not care for rock music in general, he never uttered a word against my listening choices.

My old man grew up in the Great Depression and was a navy fighter pilot in the Pacific during WWII. So the youngsters back in that day listened to the big band swing type stuff.

My father died when I was 6, so all I know is what my mom told me... she said he liked The Rolling Stones, Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan. I'm guessing the Beatles too, like almost everyone else from that time.

Same here. I can say without question his favorite singer is Frank Sinatra. Band? Beach Boys maybe? The Duprees? Early Beatles, "before they went all hippy-dippy", according to him.

My dad was born in the mid 40s and died in 2001.. He grew up with and favored old country like Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline and Hank Thompson... My mom is more Elvis, Roy Orbison, Ricky Nelson, Everly Brothers..
My mom is very religious so she thinks Everything from the Beatles forward is "Of The Devil".....
