Anyone here a fan of Chris Cornell's solo recordings? His song he contributed to the James Bond movie was a masterpiece and the best song any bond movie has ever had. The reason why it was such an excellent song for the movie was a bond movie needs a pop to pop rock tune because if the producers choose a metal song it would make the bond movie look like a Van Damme movie a good example of why this song by Chris Cornell is an excellent choice for the movie Casino Royale since its good quality pop rock not some trashy flavor of the month song.

I picked up Carry On real cheap at a thrift store or flea market. It's ok, but I didn't make enough of an impression on me to seek out his other stuff. Songbook is ok too, but it's mostly acoustic and I need to be in the right mood for it.

I like Chris in Soundgarden, but his solo work doesn't do much for me.

Cornell is one of those guys who could ride the wave of good feelings based on his musical past, but who hasn't done much of note in the last decade plus. Just my opinion, obviously.

Something about his songwriting just became... uninspired to me. It could be that I'm not at the right place in life or it could be that his writing methods changed. Especially now, with his voice starting to really wear down a bit, it's hard to recommend him.

That said, the first solo album, Euphoria Morning (or, as the reissue was titled, "Euphoria Mourning" Rolling Eyes ) was pretty good. It's not a stone classic or anything, but it was definitely listenable and decent.

And, I've gotta say, as much as I really didn't dig the direction, there was something cool about an established guy like him experimenting like he did on Scream and pairing with an electronic/pop producer. I don't think it WORKS terribly well, but it was a gutsy move - in spite of Trent Reznor talking smack on it. You know, because Reznor hasn't been mining the same sonic territory for the last 20 years and is a paragon of originality...

I think GD was being sarcastic.

For the record, I find Chris's song the worst of the Bond tunes.
