Divebomb is releasing Banshee's Race Against Time and Cry in the Night as a 2 cd set this July 15th...
Rising from the Midwestern hard rock scene of the mid-‘80s, Banshee was a band that balanced traditional heavy metal with melodic hard rock with winning results. Featuring former members of such underground Kansas City groups as Granmax and Frodo, BANSHEE was fronted by Tommy Lee Flood, a vocalist that many have compared to Ronnie James Dio in his range and power. A few years after forming, BANSHEE self-released their Cry in the Night EP, selling so many copies independently that both Metal Blade and Atlantic Records courted the young act.
BANSHEE ended up signing on with A&R legend Jason Flom at Atlantic Records, but not before licensing the EP to Metal Blade, in turn bringing international attention to the group. 1989 found the quartet releasing their debut album, Race Against Time, an 11-song collection that focused on their more melodic tendencies. Despite MTV’s Headbangers Ball giving the band’s “Shoot Down The Night” video healthy airplay, behind-the-scenes drama lead to Banshee being dropped by Atlantic Records. The group would break up in 1993 after releasing their Take ‘Em By Storm that year on their own Snowblind label.
Now, over 30 years since BANSHEE formed, Divebomb Records is excited to bring you the Race Against Time + Cry In The Night 2 CD set with each release pressed on its own CD. The remastered collection will feature reversible cover art as well as archival BANSHEE photos from throughout their career. In addition, there’s a new interview with guitarist Terry Dunn done by NoEcho.net’s Carlos Ramirez especially for this reissue. With both titles long out of print, this is your chance to own two pieces of melodic hard rock gold all over again.

I know there was a recent discussion of this band, and since I own neither, this is a no-brainer pick-up for me.

Oh, bad-ass! I only recently discovered these guys and Race Against Time has become like a close friend of mine. Gonna save up for these.
BTW, curious of opinions on 2012's Mindslave. I thought it started off with sheer intensity but dragged a bit as it went along. Also I don't think there's an original member on that album save for the bassist.

I got into their music a few months back thanks to WF and the Power Metal thread. I bought Race Against Time on both CD and Cassette and grabbed their second full length on disc too and it smokes. I almost picked up the EP on cassette a while back but I thought the price was a little too steep for a used tape.; even though I know the guy selling it. This is great news. Thanks, MG.
Oh, by the way, I watched one of Ult's "What's Spinning" vids the other night and he was cranking their "Mindslave" album. Pretty brutal stuff. Only the original guitarist remaind from the old days, though.

That's right, the guitarist is the only original member. Yeah it starts off brutal but slags a bit as it goes on. You'll have to check it out on YouTube or Spotify. It's got some great melodies and the singer is top notch.

They have a new studio album on the way this summer.
It's actually supposed to be out July 12th.
Cool. Any clips of it leak online yet? I was on Banshee's Metal Archives page earlier this week, and they don't even have the track listing for it yet. Strange, as most albums usually have the track listing up about a few weeks, or even a month, before the album gets released.

That's strange, considering practically every band on the planet leaks at least one song to YouTube, or a sneak preview, before their newest album drops.

It is odd.

https://visionarynoise.com/product/the-madness-banshee/ I understand it takes a few bucks to put a cd together, but 18.99 seems a bit hefty to me.

I agree; it's quite expensive. I could see it being that much for a foreign market, but not in North America.

Funny thing, it was the "Favorite 2019 releases" thread that prompted me to look up the video. I had no idea Banshee had a new one!
I've been getting really familiar with Banshee over the past ten years or so--they're solid but there is a lot of inconsistency. They would have worked well as a more singles-oriented band; the albums don't quite keep the pace they start with. However, they are more of the grower-oriented tunes. Metal for the thinking man, maybe? Hard to describe. But nonetheless, knowing your taste, you will enjoy them quite thoroughly.
