I always thought that Robert Plant - in Zep - carried a certain hippie ideal - Hendrix was way out there also - tremendous inovator - and look - Does anyone feel there were any hippie Metal musicians ? I thought about Enuff z Nuff - but they seemed somewhat forced - as if it was their shytck - gimmick - as a side note - I never wore tye dye anything - lol 'Hippie' does kinda border upon 'Gypsy' - in a way.

A lot of early heavy rock music still had a lot of remnants of the psychedelic music scene, and I still think you can hear the influence of hippie counterculture in Black Sabbath at times, even; think of the lyrics in the second half "A National Acrobat" for instance.
I've also seen sentiments expressed before in other places on the internet that metalheads are just hippies that have an affinity for leather and mock-sacrilege, lol.
And Loudness has an album called Heavy Metal Hippies from 94, I think. It's not as great as their prime output, but it's an interesting listen. It's dirty, heavy, and has some acid rock influence.

Enuff Z'Nuff was the first band I thought of, too. I would have to venture a guess as to anyone in the '80's still dressing and playing that way was how they actually felt in their hearts and heads. Not saying you are wrong at all, just my perspective. I would also throw in the Electric Boys, but they were a little more funkified than hippified.

The first couple of Living Colour albums always gave me a bit of peace/love/happiness. Vernon is an accomplished jazz guitarist, as we all know. But, with Living Colour, he definitely put out a more soulful groove.

You know, it's funny that back in '87-'92 these bands turned me off a bit cuz they didn't fit the stereotypical "hair metal band" look and sound. But now, I seek out a lot of what I missed (Junkyard, Jetboy, Living Colour) and really enjoy it.

Enuff and Electric Boys were the first 2 that popped into my mind as well. The Black Crowes definitely had the dirty-hippie thing down. Tesla sorta got into a hippie-type vibe in their later albums.

Just thought of another one. How about Trouble. They are definitely a metal band, and they kind of give off a hippie vibe.

You know, the more I think about it, a lot of the Doom Metal guys strike me as having a bit of hippie in them. Cathedral, Orange Goblin, Wino. Maybe it's just me. I don't know.

They were included in Martin Popoff's Collectors Guide to Metal. Good enough for Martin, good enough for me.
