| I remember when it happened.
Sort of feels like it was recent considering 2004 is not that far off, and I had already been into metal for almost a decade by that time.
Then again, I was still in college (in the Netherlands) when it happened. So that does feel like a lifetime ago. Now I'm married, with a child, working and living in my native Finland.

| I remember siting in the apartment I shared with my girlfriend (at that time, not the woman I am married to now) and seeing this on google. I was just stunned that something like this could happen during a performance. You kind of figure most rock stars to drink themselves into the grave or overdose ( or die in a plane crash like so many have) but not be murdered on stage. I guess post 911 here in the USA, nothing and no one are safe. | |

| I remember getting emailed from a friend telling me what had happened. I turned on the news and was in shock that Dime was killed doing what he loved. Playing music. R.I.P. | |

| I was in the middle of a pretty intense insomnia jag at the time and had somehow managed to get to sleep. My phone went off because a friend had texted me with the news. I read it without really processing it and managed to fall asleep again.
A few hours later, I remember waking up and going about my business, having completely forgotten about the text. Before I remembered the contents of it, some creeping sense of unreality hit me. And then I remembered my friend's text and had something to connect it to.
The event just feels... incorrect. It shouldn't have gone down like that and that feeling is my overriding memory of hearing about it. Hell, I STILL get that feeling when I think about it.

| How many other rock musicians have died like he did (on stage)? As far as I know, none... Most others have died from drug related overdoses or alcohol related asphyxiation type deals. Even some suicides... But being murdered point blank on stage playing guitar is a new category that Dime unfortunately seems to be the very first high profile victim of. The only other person would obviously be John Lennon (minus being on stage). | |

| Jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan was shot dead at the nightclub Slug's Saloon in NYC where he was performing that night.
I vividly remember the day Dimebag was shot. I was working at AOL at the time, I was the program manager for a subscription music service called Musicnet. When the news broke online the first thing I did was contact the department that published the front page of the music site and asked them to post a tribute in his memory. Within an hour they had a small tribute and playlist ready.
I had met him and Vinnie the year before at a King's X show in Dallas, made it feel more surreal.

Yeah, they were huge King's X fans. I remember reading that Dimebag fashioned the clean guitar part of Cemetery Gates after Ty Tabor's playing style.

| It was such a tragedy the way Dime died, but I also sometimes wonder how his health would be if he lived. He was a massive drinker and non stop party type guy. His kidneys or liver might be toast at this point. Even Rex Brown ended up with acute pancreatitis... And I doubt he drank more than Darrell. | |

beats the hell out of any iommi riff. What makes this so funny is that you're serious. iommi is better than dimebag, I definitely agree. but I find some of dimebag's riffs to be much more enjoyable than iommi's. much heavier.
