The first one that comes to mind for me is Bride's "Out for Blood" both b/c of the subject matter and the vocal performance of Dale Thompson. The second song would be "Hall of the Mountain King" by Savatage. Both Criss's riff and Jon's voice (especially the breakdown in the middle) just shock me.

Type O Negative - "Are You Afraid" ... disturbing on record, but it was even more terrifying when they did it live!!

No song in particular, but Stevie Ray Vaughn's solos have sent a shiver through my spine on occasion.

Skid Row's Wasted Time

Wasted Time almost always sends chills down my spine.

"Hide and Seek" by Seventh Wonder gets me, too. Especially the reprisal of the chorus at the end followed by that killer synth riff.

"The Apparition" by Fates Warning has many moments that are shiver-inducing. "In the four corners of life, are the golden mirrors, reflecting what you are and what you are to be!" \'arry \'eadbanger

"You're Going Back" by the Tallest Man on Earth gives me chills when his voice breaks in singing, "Don't you go that f*ckin' way"

For me, chills come from getting absorbed entirely in a song and having a portion stand out to me & hit me right in the heart. There's tons more songs I could've listed, but it would've been pointless, lol. Pretty much any song has the potential to hit me in that way.

He's using a song-artist format; Lunar Sea is a song by Camel--and a fabulous number at that.

What he said! Camel is even a more famous Progrock band from the 70s.

Queen - Who Wants To Live Forever. In particular the "Woah" just before "when love must die", which gets me every time.

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb. Mainly that guitar solo.

I don't know what songs send shivers up my spine right now, but through the course of my life they have been songs that have are a little on the darker side lyrically or musically. For example:

Metallica: Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Judas Priest: Fever
Judas Priest: Night Comes Down
Soundgarden: Fell On Black Days
....

There are certain pop rock, AOR songs that will transport met back to my childhood, which brings that same feeling as well

Fast forward to 6:03 in the video. The guitars kick back in and Rob lets loose a scream that literally did send chills down my spine when I heard it, then the soaring lead guitar comes in...that entire ending is just perfect.

Bring me your children, they'll burn!
Never look back, never turn!
Cry me a river, you'll learn Voodoo!!
I was surprised Dio sang this line on the Sabbath cd - it gave a chill - like - did he just sing that - type of chill - Kinda like when Type O Negative sang at the end of a song - " Body of Christ - Corpus Christi " - that shocked me - a chill -

In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson.

This one song started a 20 year obsession with this band, one that it still growing stronger by the year. Probably the first time I truly realized what a mellotron could do in the right hands, what an otherworldly sound!

Songs That Give You Chills Empty
PostSubject: Re: Songs That Give You Chills   Songs That Give You Chills Icon_minitimeTue Nov 24, 2015 1:17 pm

I saw the Doobie Brothers in concert on August 18th, 1982 in Indianapolis on their farewell tour. It was my first concert experience ever. My father had two customers that backed out, so he took our neighbor he was friends with, along with myself along and my mother. As an eleven year old, I was incredibly impressionable. I loved my father's music and much of that had to do with the fact that he loved his music. I remember being a four year old going out to the living room and lying down next to him, while he spun his records/albums on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I still remember those albums in all of their glory. It's funny what stays with you.

One of the great things about a great song, is how a band can make that song even greater. For a number of years "Black Water" has had the distinction of incorporating the host city or state into the lyrics. Even though all Doobie Brothers fans know it's coming, it never gets old. It makes you the concert goer feel even better about your experience. One would think that something like this could become cliched, but it never does and I think much of that has to do with the band members themselves. Patrick Simmons, while playing the opening chords and singing can be seen grinning from ear to ear. Tommy Johnston doesn't start playing the song until after the first chorus and that goes along with long time member John McFee. When Tommy Johnston raises both fists in the air and John McFee points his bow to the crowd, it quite simply is a feel good moment. What sells it is, they're having as much fun as the audience. I'm not much of a religious person, but God bless the Doobie Brothers! What a cool band, real people, big hearts, and fun loving gentleman who put on a great live show.

This video is from a show in Indianapolis in 2011, but the same feeling I felt as an eleven year old in 1982 has me feeling the same way in 2015.

By an interesting coincidence The Doobie Brothers were also my first concert, though a few years earlier. I saw them on October 5, 1978 with opening act UFO at the Roanoke Civic Center in Roanoke Virginia. My favorite bands at that juncture of my life were The Doobie Brothers, ELO, Kiss, Heart, Boston and Queen.

What a show that had to be! I didn't get in to UFO until just a few years ago. I have pretty much everything through the Paul Chapman years. I'm not sure how I missed out on them for so many years? I don't even remember if there was an opening band. Before Indianapolis had an any kind of real amphitheater, they had concerts in the heart of downtown at where the biggest U.S Clay Court tournament was held in the U.S. It was obviously outdoors, so it added to the ambiance of what was a great first show. I wish there was a recording of some kind out there for this show. I'm not sure I had a favorite's list as it pertained to bands as I wasn't really into heavier music, though that would change the following year. My father and the radio were my musical guide. I'm guessing MTV had peaked my interest as well by the following year as cable lines were put in sometime around 1982/1983.

I was 8 years old when I saw that concert and was not familiar with UFO at the time. But I remember Michael, that long blond hair whipping around on stage while he played guitar was a visual memory that has stuck with me through the years. It wasn't until several years later that I finally got around to listening to their music, luckily I started with their all-time best release, the live album "Strangers In The Night".
