Moving this thread to "Collector's Corner".

I scored 50 CDs in 2014, only four of which were "new releases." I believe this puts me over last year's total by two or three discs.

My total number may increase to 51 (and the "new releases" number to 5) if the copy of Judas Priest's Redeemer of Souls that I just ordered arrives in the mail before year's end. If not, that'll be my first CD of 2015.

I noticed something interesting while compiling my list of this year's acquisitions: 2014 was the first year ever where I never actually walked into a record store or major retailer to buy any music - I ordered the bulk of them online (mostly from GoHastings) and picked up the rest second hand at thrift stores, yard sales, etc. That struck me as kinda weird. I would've thought that at least ONCE during the course of a year, I might have run out to Best Buy for a new release, or maybe impulse-grabbed something off the cheap-o rack at WalMart, but... nope.

Anywhoo, here's my heap. Scanning this list, I see that I filled a lot of gaps in my hair-metal collection this year, and for some ungodly reason I can't resist picking up those cheap-ass "Extended Versions" live compilation discs.

I also went "off the reservation" more often than usual, buying non-metal stuff like REO Speedwagon (who actually kicked ass once upon a time... who knew?) Rick Springfield (!!) Styx, and Grand Funk Railroad. Shoot, I even bought a couple of Country (gasp!!) CDs.

Led Zeppelin turned out to be my "most purchased" band of 2014 but that's only cuz I scored four of their discs at the same time at a garage sale, along with a bunch of other stuff. That was a great day.

Behind Zeppelin, there's a three way tie for second place in the "most purchased" column, with Dokken, Krokus and Alice In Chains coming in at two albums apiece.

All in all 2014 was a good collectin' year despite my occasional lack of fundage. I hope that the successful combination of thriftiness and dumb luck that I've managed to cultivate this year will continue into 2015 and beyond.

I think that I've bought less physical stuff this year but more digital (Bandcamp downloads) but I could surprise myself if I can be bothered to trawl through to see what I've bought. Tapes have made a small and surprising comeback for me this year as well.

I looked over my list and I bought more CD's and music related DVD's then I have in years past, thou I spent less money then I did last year.

Will compile my list after I use my Best Buy gift card this weekend.

All of Izzy's solo albums are pretty fantastic. Unfortunately, all but the first few are iTunes exclusive releases.

2014 saw me add 143 cds to my collection. 126 of them were bought while 14 were from Swapacd and 3 were trades.

This is the lowest number of acquisitions since I started keeping track:

2009 - 356 cds added
2010 - 333 cds added
2011 - 447 cds added
2012 - 334 cds added
2013 - 319 cds added

Why the change? I think its several factors - was traveling a lot more for work, less time to spend researching new stuff, more mp3 albums bought, SACD saw a real slowdown and just that general feeling that 2014 was not as exciting a music year as previous years have been.
