| Are there any fans of blues here? If so, I have a question. I have a pretty decent collection of blues guitarists, but I'm looking for piano blues artists. I heard some Professor Longhair on satellite radio and it has me interested in other artists that are primarily piano-based blues. Other than someone like Dr. John, I don't know many. It can be new or old, black or white. Any suggestions? | |

| I just looked it up and found a link that will hopefully help you out. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE5731FDC4AAB7420C0972D41C2A671E705D242F7810C256A4CDDBD3E47C30E79AF49FE95C5D1B81FC731CA8262A64506CCC8EE56FB90673D3788EBAC65392E3A7B&sql=77:45 I know it is long but it should work. Enjoy. | |

| Funny you should send that link. I go to all-music quite a bit. I went down this path the other night on my own. It's quite extensive and a good place to start. It's given me a few good leads of people to look out for. I just thought I'd throw it out here on the boards for some other suggestions as well. Thanks for the link. | |

| No prob. I wasn't sure, some people don't really look through allmusic or don't really know about the site at all, so i just put it out there, because allmusic has been very informative to me and helped me with music purchases over the years. | |

[url=http://www.respectperfection.com/ http://www.respectperfection.com/[/quote[/url]] I had his 1st release "Treat Me Right", but in all honesty, it didn't do anything for me and I traded it away. I haven't heard any of his other stuff, but thanks for the recommendation.

| No, but I'm starting to worry about myself. I've gotten well into that Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, sort of limbo; and I've been messing around with the John Mayall crowd, Keef Hartley; Graham Bond, all that. Also I didn't go through my annual winter Power Metal phase this winter. Am I getting old? I'm afraid! It all started with that "roots of metal" curiosity, Mountain, Cactus, and all that. | |

| If you can handle early Zepplin, Free, Taste, Trapeze...and all that; I recommend Martin Popoff's book on 60's & 70's "Metal" (pre-metal really). I learned about just tons and tons of underground "heavy" blues based stuff from that book. | |

| Can't recommend any piano guys, but I like the blues! Don't have an extensive collection though. This is about it:
BB King ZZ Top George Thorogood Allman Bros Johnny Winter
Zeppelin is not blues, by the way.

Another vote for Otis Spann. His Candid recordings are the best place to start (available on emusic for cheap). I would also recommend the following piano players which straddle the line between blues & jazz: Mose Allison (Mose Allison Sings is a good place to start)Red Garland (I would recommend Red Garland's Piano for starters)Ray Bryant (Ray did a solo piano blues album called Alone With The Blues which is a classic)Earl "Fatha" Hines (pretty much anything, but the "Plays Duke Ellington" albums are great)Junior Mance (Junior's Blues is one of my favorite piano recordings) |
