| Now that I think about it, the second-loudest concert I've ever been too is kind of a surprise. Back in '94 I think it was, I saw Drivin' n Cryin' at a small club called Toad's Place in New Haven, CT. Man for a band that has quite a few mellow, even "country-ish" songs, they were deafening. And since this was on the tour promoting their "Smoke" album, they closed with "Turn It Up Or Turn It Off" which of course meant they cranked the volume even louder.
On the ride home, my girlfriend and I kept trying to talk to each other but we both kept saying "What?" or "Huh?".
Actually, I saw Collective Soul at that same venue and they were pretty loud too considering the type of music they play. It's not the acoustics of the place though because I saw The Outlaws there too and they didn't leave my ears ringing. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Ratt at the Gulf Coast Coliseum in 1985. They used a PA system that would have been sufficient for a venue twice that size, my ears rang non-stop for a week after that show.

| The loudest would probably have been KISS on the first reunion tour in Toronto. I was third row - the sound waves where intense especially on Gene's bass and Ace's guitar solos. | |

| Definitely seeing Zodiac Mindwarp, U.D.O, and Guns N' Roses on the Appetite for Destruction tour in April of 88'. My ears rang for just over three days. It was actually quite scary. | |

| Figured I'd resurrect this rather than make my own thread.
Loudest metal concert I've been to is Black Label Society during an Ozzfest show. They were a hundred times louder than any other band that night, and so loud that everyone around me were looking at each other like WTF is going on here. Only concert that actually hurt my ears.
The other standout loud af show I've been to was seeing Combichrist open for Ramstein. Pretty sure Combichrist was louder, but we were farther away so it didn't hurt my ears. Buy the bass in the arena was just vibrating everything now tied down. It was so loud that the drummer on stage right kept having his floor Tom vibrate off the drum riser he was using. It happened about three times before some stagehand just sat there and held it in place till the show was over. Ramstein was also loud, but not near as loud as Combichrist was.

| Now that I'm an old fart I have weird stuff going on with my hearing as it is; in fact I saw a hearing specialist back in August because I keep hearing a hum. The last damn thing I need these days is some band "playing on 11". Sorry, I like hard/heavy music but I don't need you ruining my hearing for the rest of my life. So it looks like my band choices are down to artists like Billy Joel or Elton John; in other words artist who are older than I am. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I can't even really answer this because I wear ear protection to every show nowadays and have for the longest time. In fact, I even wear earplugs in movie theaters because I find so many of them excessively loud otherwise. I don't care about the optics. In my view, I'd rather err on the conservative side and be able to enjoy rock and metal shows for as long as possible. | |

| I also wear hear protection at any concert I go to, I love my heavy metal but won't love it as much if I can't hear a thing | |

| You guys are smart.
I don't know if the stuff going on with my hearing these days has any relation to listening to loud music through headphones and concerts or not but trust me, you don't want this. They've basically told me there's nothing anyone can do. Lipoflavonoids seem to be helping some but the incessant hum is still there in quiet situations.
It does make me feel better to blame that Korn show for this; especially since I hate them and was there to see KMFDM. Man, that Korn show was LOUD and BASS-heavy; no wonder my head was throbbing by the time I left. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Well I was born with bad ears, I'm sure I'll pay the piper eventually. I do have a hole in my right eardrum, and get some strange noises once in a while. I have also lost my hearing once when I got a head cold. I wasn't 100% deaf, but probably at least 90%. I could hear talking, but couldn't really make out the words. It was kind of like I was stuck in a world where people talked like the adults sound on Charlie Brown. All that, and I guess I should wear ear protection at shows, but at this point I don't see the point. Plus my job is loud being in a truck all day long, so I'll either be deaf or I won't one day. Figure Im too far gone to start worrying now lol | |

| Unfortunately you're probably right Wrecked.
Unlike most damage you can do to your body apparently hearing issues usually aren't something that can be reversed. The frustrating part at least for me is that I don't know if there was anything I could have done to prevent my hearing problems now or not. After doing some research online no one is really sure what "tinnitus" is or why it happens. But listening to loud music through headphones and at concerts certainly didn't help anything.

| I used to dive years ago and hurt my ear drum real bad to the point that i needed a transplant. Until this day my hearing in said ear is affected. I still enjoy playing music loud in the car when driving.
When i go to concerts, protection is a must. But i forgot to use any when attending the destruction show a few months ago. That hurt bad.

| I would say Priest back in 2014 as I was at the stage and had no ear protection. It's funny, I only wear ear protection at the range but never to concerts. Go figure on that one. | |

It's the range that put a hole in my ear drum so that makes perfect sense to me. My colt .45 did me in one day when I forgot to bring my ear protection. Big mistake that was, been suffering for it ever since.

I remember being in a band - playing a college party - Girls coming up to us - YES - to please turn it down - ohh

At the time, I lived with my Mom and Pop and it was only around the corner. Not that I live far away now, but I probably still would. I have heard too many stories like this from other gun owners and my customers. At the risk of sounding like a dumbass, I will ask, is there anything they can do to fix ya?

I have heard too many stories like this from other gun owners and my customers. At the risk of sounding like a dumbass, I will ask, is there anything they can do to fix ya? Well normally I probably would have gone home to get some, or bought some from the range, but this time I was speaking of wasn't really a range, it was out in the middle of the desert. Took me over an hour to get there, and my friend didn't have an extra pair of ear plugs or headphones. So I said screw it and now I suffer the consequences lol Far as fixing it goes, I never really asked. The two doctors that noticed it never acted like it was anything they cared much about, and it doesn't bother me much unless I go swimming or get a head cold. If I get a cold,it's almost guaranteed that I'll lose part of my hearing. If I get water in there, then it's going to be one hell of an earache. I guess one of these days I'll see about getting it fixed if possible, but I hate doctors and try to avoid them at all cost lol
