I think its a phenomenon that occurs in music that is not part of the mainstream or was but is not anymore. That kind of music is not spoon fed through the media so it makes people who are drawn to those specialist genres work hard to find the music they like, when all that time and effort searching pays off in finding a great album or artist the music is that bit more rewarding. I know that digging for great obscure bands in hard rock/metal has instilled a spirit in me to keep searching for great music outside the hard rock/metal spectrum. I'am as obsessed with long forgotten 60's garage rock, 60's Girl Groups and Powerpop acts as i am with hard rock/metal.

I was thinking maybe blues fans too.

i gotta admit i usually listen to metal when i get dressed to prepare you for the day - usually megadeth or dimmu borgir

I think it is addictive. At least collecting the music is.....

I am with all you guys on this. Heavy Metal is the only music I listen to that I can't live without. What sucks is that at Wal-Mart (where I work) for a while I was able to listen to my MP3 player and my metal allowed me to be energized and get my job done quickly. However, now all outside music is banned (we have crappy store music) so I can only listen on breaks and during lunch which has made my work efficiency plummet!!

Metal music collecting is so addictive that I don't even have a need to masturbate anymore.

Yep,its truly an addiction!

I do the same thing. I also put the cd player on at work but its hard to listen to it because i have to talk to people.

Metal is my mental adrenaline.
