The Most Influential Guitarist on Modern Day Metal

What guitarist do you think single handedly influenced the most contemporary metal bands?



I vote Yngwie J. Malmsteen.
Love or hate him. I can hear his influence in alot of power metal bands. I think his neo-classical style took what EVH started and expanded on it.

True. He's my second favorite of all time but I don't know how influential he is on contemporary artists. But I see your point.

what do you classify as "contemporary" metal?

Metal that is contempora....or rather modern. I would say the last 10-15 years.

Don't know about the MOST bands influenced, but Uli Jon Roth definitely made his mark in metal when he was in Scorpions.

For most kids nowadays it'd be Kirk Hammett or Dimebag I guess, I myself am mostly influenced by the likes of Iommi, Lifeson, Page, Nugent (Dukes era), Cliff Burton, Blackmore, Schenker, Al Di Meola etc

If we are talking the past 10 years or so, then I agree with Temple of Blood, Dimebag Darrell.

Darrell would probably be one of the top choices for the nu-metal generation,but if were going back 15 years + id say Alex Skolnik-(he also helped Ibanez sell a ton of sabre guitars).

I'm not sure if the last 10 years really had any innovators. Yeah I would however have to agree with Temple of Blood that Dimebag Darrell had quite an infulence on Metal.
