| I've been listening to this a lot this past week. It's definitely a lot like Dominator and Babylon. The lead song, "Scream," sounds almost exactly like "Mercy and "Crazy"; it even has some of the same lyrics. A few other tracks also borrow melodies from their previous two albums. I don't really care, though. This album is really fun to listen to. | |

| I'm sort of surprised at the lyrical content. I mean it was fairly obvious on Babylon that Blackie was writing lyrics based on his faith but I think this album takes that to the next level. I think some "metal fans" might be put off by the themes on this album but to me that attitude makes no sense. What other genre looks at theological themes as much as metal? I think it's only fair that some artists explore the positive side of that. Here's the chorus from the title track: - Quote :
Jesus I need you now Free me I'm lost somehow Oh, remember me today I'm a leper left to hang Oh, yes I need you now
Wow. Never thought I'd hear that on a WASP album. But you know what? This thing kicks! _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I swear I'm going to make myself sick of "The Last Runaway". I just keep playing it over and over and over. Yesterday when I came home with car windows down and that song was blaring, there were some kids playing Home Run Derby in my cul-de-sac. They stopped and started doing air guitar with the bats. I cracked up. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I think some "metal fans" might be put off by the themes on this album but to me that attitude makes no sense. So people who don't like religious propaganda aren't true metal fans according to you? Wow....just, wow. With Religion it's the same as with your dick: It's nice that you have it and like it but you don't need to constantly shove it into my face. I bought the album, it like it (It's W.A.S.P., sounds like W.A.S.P. so of course it's great) but it would be miles better without all the praising of fairy tale figures and a badly written novel that some people made the center of their lifes.

| Nice leap in logic there SA but that's not what I said at all. I'm not even a metal fan myself so I have no idea what a "true metal fan" even is.
My only point was that I think some people will reject this album immediately just because of the themes it contains. That doesn't have anything to do with being "true metal" or not; it has more to do with having an open mind. And if you choose to reject it because you don't like the subject matter, that's entirely your prerogative; I'm just saying I don't understand that mindset.
At least you bought it and like it. That's the main thing; I'm thinking some people won't even give it a listen and that's their loss IMO. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I'm surprised that someone would bitch about an album using religious symbolism that isn't much worse than the neo-pagan themes discussed on a lot of scandinavian metal albums. Those beliefs have been revived and are being actively practiced today, particularly by white supremacists.
In fact, if were were going to bitch about the 'evils of religion', I knew of an atheist who told me about his relationship with a wiccan friend. The latter believed in bullshit like crystals, energy forces (auras) etc. and had this constant habit of trying to supress 'intrusive thoughts' through visualization, performing repetitive rituals, and other practices that led to anxiety, unhealthy states of mind (like obsessive compulsive disorder), and obviously failed attempts to defeat forces that most likely didn't exist, except in paranoid delusions. He (the atheist) eventually pointed out this pattern to the wiccan and said she needed to get mental help because wicca was a delusion for weak people with no power in the real world.
Trying to place all the blame on christians when the pagans are just as capable as being f*cked up is really cheap. They may not have the political power, but the destructive potential is still there.

| I'm a little under-whelmed with this new album. Nothing really stands-out to me. It sounds too similar to the last few WASP albums. Not saying that's a bad thing really. But if you put this album, Dominator and Babylon in a playlist and shuffled them up, you'd be hard pressed to tell what songs were from which album.
Not sure how I feel about that revelation. Is it a good thing he found a formula and is sticking to it? Or has he gotten lazy and just re-recorded the same album 3 times now? I guess time will tell how this holds up for me. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | I just got Golgotha this past week and I'm feeling the same way as MG71 up above. Don't get me wrong, the disc is OK, but the rave reviews it's been getting led me to expect something with a bit more firepower. Golgotha doesn't sound much different from Babylon, which didn't sound that different from Dominator. It's no secret that Blackie's been cannibalizing his own past since the mid 90s... but geez, at least in the past he mixed it up a little from album to album. Helldorado was a rehash of the vibe of the Animal (F*** Like A Beast) single and the first album, then he went back into Headless Children territory on Unholy Terror and Fighting For The World... then Neon God was a blatant reheating of The Crimson Idol. So even tho you knew you were getting self-referential stuff each time, at least there was some difference in style(s) between albums. But with Golgotha he's been in the same mid-paced cowboy-metal rut for three in a row now. I guess we should be grateful that Blackie has never tried to revisit the K.F.D. sound, anyway. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Yea, I re-visited Golgotha for my end-of-year round-up and my opinion hasn't really changed. It's not a bad album per say, just too similar to the previous 2 to make any kind of impact. Blackie might need to shake things up a little for the next one. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was.
