I think I've finally reached my threshold of thrash-open mindedness.
Get this: a "My Little Pony"-themed power/thrash band.
I'm browsing new releases on my iPhone, so I haven't had a chance to listen to these songs yet. Tell me what you guys think.

A prize for anyone who can find a hint of thrash in any of this. But with this put to one side, I've got to say, it's pretty awful!
The cover is a non issue for me, it's no sillier than all of the super macho stuff, but the music really is terrible.

These guys have a spot on Metal Archives. Wow.
Well, what can I say? My Little Pony has found its way into heavy metal, too, it seems. But, yeah, what's so thrash about this? It's much more your average power metal. In actuality, the music is pretty damn boring. The Sanctuary cover isn't half bad, but that's about it. I don't really like what I heard out of these tracks posted here (I only listened to one, but not all the way through. I wasn't interested in listening to all five minutes. I don't think I could listen to "Discord's Lament" in one sitting.).

Are you saying it's stupid for guys to actually like that show? I sure hope not.
I'm not a fan myself, but I would never judge someone else just because they liked a kids show(heck, there's a lot of kids shows I genuninely enjoy).

I think ult is referring to the cult obsession and how far it's come. A lot of guys are kind of put off by it (I just shrug).
Here's a decent explanation I found from a redditor:
"IMO, it's how FiM exploits cliches, where the story implies an obvious conclusion, but then goes a different way entirely. Otherwise perfect character designs are an effective way to set up different characters; it requires less changes and fewer flaws to set up a new character. A good example is Trixie; simply putting a hat and cape on a blue unicorn completely makes the character visuals complete, but that'd never work if clothing was normal in the show. Alot of the appeal is the "meme-ability" of the show, where the facial expressions and visual composition is just too easy to exploit. Whether it's intentional or not, it works and we like it. As for some sort of "hidden shame-filled pleasure", well I don't really see how that's possible, since most bronies are fairly open about the fandom. I mean, are we secretly liking something so much that we have to tell people about it? That's kinda silly. Oh, and you're never too old to like cartoons; "Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence.....When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." - C. S. Lewis"

Ummmm.... seriously? I think I'll pass, despite their good taste in cover songs (Sanctuary's "Battle Angels" for the win).
It's not the dumbest metal gimmick to come down the pike (because BabyMetal still exists) but it's gotta be in the top five.

Sounds kind of average to me. Personally, i'd like to hear some power metal songs based off of Masters of the Universe (Im not kidding either, come on, that show pretty much lends itself to power metal lyrics).

If that ever happens, I want Manowar to do it.

I have zero interest in the whole My Little Pony thing that's popular these days.
But that aside, when bands are themed to something specific...that gets way to old for me. I don't mind when a band might do a concept album about a specific movie/book/comic/whatever. So like if these dudes were a just regular, non-equine themed band, and they happened to have an album called Equestrian Lord, about MLP...well that's one thing. But if they stick around, and have 10 albums of MLP tunes...no way would I ever be interested in that (even if I liked the property they were themed off of).
Like in the world of indy hip hop, this guy Wordburgler has an excellent GI Joe themed album called "Welcome to Cobra Island"...but his other albums are not all about GI Joe.

I think musically it's pretty good, but the gimmick makes it hard to take seriously(I also like Babymetal).

The my little pony/brony thing is beyond weird to me. However, I listen to a bunch of metal about dragons, elves, trolls, dwarves, etc...so...I gave this a shot out of curiosity.
It's good. It's actually surprisingly good. It's certainly not thrash. It's more like powermetal/heavy metal. I don't want to like it because of the themes, but the musicianship is actually top-notch.

I sense a Babymetal/Powerglove/Equestrian Lord concert tour in the near future, hitting all the major comic and sci-fi cons.

I do like Powerglove kind of. Not enough to buy it or anything, but I do find them kind of enjoyable.
