You're aware that the next book will be all about Tyrion, Jon Snow etc...(but then of course not about the ones keyed on in AFFC)? I'm not sure why he's doing it that way, but he's to catch us up with those people in the next one. I do wish he'd hurry. I think he's purposely being a douche about things. Like I've said before, I'm worried his girthy heart will explode in the next 5-10 years it's going to take for him to finish the series!!

| I just picked up The Encyclöpedia öf Heavy Metal at the local bookstore. It's pretty good, there's a few dissapointments in it concerning some unincluded bands like Dream Theater, Annihilator, & Nevermore.
Also, I'm reading Seinlanguage by Jerry Seinfeld (which is a compilation? of all his stand up material), & a book my brother got for me for Christmas titled: 8000 Things You Should Know. Pretty Informative.

But wasn't the next supposed to be part of book four, but he decided to split it up? Either way, I tend to think he's backed himself into a corner. |

| I finished The Elves of Cintra last night. Man, I finished that one in record time. I love the way Terry Brooks writes. He's not overly complicated and doesn't write stories with a ridiculous amount of depth, but he does write great stories. I'm just gonna go and finish A Feast for Crows next. |

| AFFC was OK, but I agree that it is the weakest of the series. As he was writing it, it was expanding faster than Michael Moore at an all you can eat buffet, so he decided to split it into two books. Instead of telling half the story for all of the characters, he elected to tell all of the story for half of the characters. The next installment will be called A Dance With Dragons, and it will have all of the chapters for Dany, Jon, Tyrion, etc.... Right now, he's looking at publishing it this fall, but we've heard that before, so I'm not holding my breath. If you're interested, GRRM has put up sample chapters for the book. He rotates them out every month or two, but it's always the same ones. I read them all long ago, it helps to tide you over. You can find them here. It's currently a Jon chapter. Currently reading: 1984 - George Orwell | |

Yeah, there's a sample chapter at the end of Feast. I'll check out what he's got online after I'm done. |

| I have passed from Scions Of Shannara to The Druid of Shannara. When I read books I usually picture actors as the characters but I am never really satisfied with who I pick. The only ones for this series I am comfortable with is Christopher Lambert as Walker Boh, Tim Curry as Rimmer Dahl, Estella Warren as Quickening, and perhaps my greatest feat of casting-Andy Serkis as Pe Ell. If anyone has Druid Of Shannara or has read it check out the description of Pe Ell and look at a picture of Serkis (the one on Wikipedia is a good one) and you will know what I mean. | |

Actually it is in more his appearance that I see. I origionally had Liam Nielson (a much better actor) but I kept seeing him as Qui-Gon Jinn (i.e. not dark and brooding enough). Lambert popped into my head and stuck there so he stays (besides, I liked him in Highlander [all of them acutally] which is one of my favorite movies). When I read this series again in 3 or 4 years I will try to find someone better (everytime I try a little better).

| I just finished A Feast For Crows last night. The last 150 pages or so were great, but largely a disappointing book. Not that it was bad, but it felt like a set-up book. Nothing huge happened, at least compared to the first three. I swear, every chapter in the first three books ended on a cliff-hanger! I've never said F*ck! so many times in my life as when I was reading those first three books. Haha. Still a good read, though, but it pales compared to the first three. I've just started World Without End, the quasi-sequel to Pillars of the Earth, today. I hope it's as good as Pillars, which is one of my top 5 favorite books. |

When I read this series again in 3 or 4 years I will try to find someone better (everytime I try a little better). I've had to do some revisioning. Walker Boh is now played by Chrirstian Bale because I figured Lambert was too old (Walker is only a little older than Par and Coll), Bale is a better actor, and after watching 3:10 To Yuma I can picture him with a fuller beard. I also have to figure out a new actor for Coll Ohmsford who I had pictured as Heath Legdger but due to his untilmely death I figure I'd find someone else or just make up a generic person for that part (that is what I usually do when I can't figure out an actor to play the part). I will be finished with The Druid tonight and will start on The Elf Queen tomorrow night.

I agree with you. All of the interesting POV's are going on elsewhere, but the second half should make up for it if Martin ever finishes it.

I agree with you. All of the interesting POV's are going on elsewhere, but the second half should make up for it if Martin ever finishes it. It got better after about page 250, but still it was slow, and then like the last four chapters he dropped all kinds of bombs. The problem here is the flow of the story. It's choppy. Which is no surprise considering he sort of chopped one story into two. I did like what he did with Arya, Brienne and Jaime, though. The final Cersei chapter was great, too. I wonder what word Brienne shouted right before her implied demise? I can't figure out what she would say. And I'm not sure if I like what he did with Catelyn; the change seems too extreme and almost pointless. I don't know. We'll see, I guess. Pretty crazy that in 2005 he was saying the next book would hopefully be out in a year. I think he's struggling with the story. Either way, I hope Arya comes back as a badass. I loved when she did away with the singer. That was awesome. |

| Finished Elf Queen and am now starting the final book in The Heritage Of Shannara, The Talismans Of Shannara. After that I'll take a break from fantasy and go into either comedy (The Stingray Shuffle), horror (Cell), or action (Patterson). Then I'll go back to Shannara and finish it in time to go to the newest series (the last book in that series comes out in September). | |

| Over the weekend I re-read "Back To The Batcave" by Adam West, who played Batman in the classic 1960s TV series. I'm a Bat-Geek so I find this one fascinating every time I read it. It's full of trivia not just about his years on the "Batman" show but about some of the rather odd turns his career has taken since then.
My copy is autographed by Mr. West himself, whom I met at a signing session for the book in 1994 -- he was an extremely cool guy too!! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Hmm, have I never replied in this thread? Well, I don't read all that much. The last book I finished was called Flaggermusmannen (translates to The Bat Man), by the Norwegian Author, Jo Nesbø. It's a crime novel, about a Norwegian detective investigating a murder on a Norwegian woman in Sydney, Australia. GREAT book! Prior to this one, I read the biograhpy about TNT guitar-wizard, Ronni Le Tekrö. The book is called "Hekta: Et Liv I Rock" (translates Hooked: A Life in Rock). The book was ok, but not that well written. The author is a music critic for Norways biggest newspaper, and it was like reading the same review again and again. Now I'm reading another crime novel, but a Swedish author, who sadly passed away in 2004, and didn't really get "famous" 'til after his death. His name was Stieg Larsson, and the novel is called " Män som hatar kvinnor" ("Men who hate women"). It was released after the man's death. _________________ | |

| I need to do a book report for school, so I chose to do Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas for it. I have an old copy and I just can't get over the paragraph on the back: "We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of Mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half-full of cocaine and a whole galaxy of multicolored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls... but the only thing that worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible than a man in the depths of an ether binge..." props to Hunter S. Thompson | |
