My favorite Tom Petty solo without a doubt is "Love Is A Long Road"
My favorite Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers song would be "Breakdown", but the live version off of "Pack Up the Plantation". The audience singing the song back to the band, and Tom Petty stating: "You guys are gonna put me out of a job". It's one of those live moments that sends shivers up and down your spine.
Running Down a Dream. Song guaranteed to get the foot tapping.
Ramble alert. I have fond memories of moving to Seaside, OR, for the summer and blaring that song in my '79 Camaro with the windows rolled down and my cocker spaniel in the passenger seat. What was crazy was how every line was relevant, except my cruise control was broken. I had been driving through Oregon rain that whole day and the sun started shining when I reached the northern forests. It was the coolest feeling in the world, hearing that, seeing my dog smile, smoking American Spirits, drinking black coffee, and just cruising.
Anyway. Awesome song, and the whole reason I got into Del Shannon.

I have many fond memories of Seaside, as well. Fun town with plenty of hotties.

You've been there! Very beautiful women, yes. Did you ever visit the record barn between there and Warrenton? Dude (named Richard I think) has a barn full of vinyl records for a buck apiece, right off the highway. I think he went out of business recently.
I was born in P-Town. Actually just moved back from there a couple of months ago [I can handle MN snow, but 6 months without the sun???].
Is that the Sunset highway? Or 1? Either way, I will look for it next time out!
Yeah that's what made Seaside so endearing to me: no sun. I'm all about cloudy skies and rainfall. FOND memories being up there. Enjoyed the occasional trip to Portland too.
The record barn, or whatever it was called, was on the west side of Sunset. I tried to Google Earth the place, but nothing is ringing a bell. Possibly torn down, it was pretty old. Dude also did Elvis impersonations in full costume here and there. He was pretty crazy.

Funny enough, I ALSO had a beat-ass '79 Berlinetta back in the day! [and a killer '80 Formula 440. The Camaro was way more fun to beat on though].
Hey mine was a Berlinetta too! She took a fair beating too but I threw a brand-new engine, exhaust, and tranny in her. I miss her something awful. A great year. What block did you have in yours?
It's so hard to pick a favorite but this one always made me smile:

Chevy, so 305 [? - think the Pontiacs had the 302]. My TA was getting overhauled when I got my first date with my first wife. So I went and bought the rusty old camaro just to take her out. Ahh, the stupid things 18yr olds do for love. Fun car though. The floorboards were rusted out so the exhaust would come right up into the driver seat. But, I could get her to 120 without any effort. My roommate had a 69 with the 350, and I could still blow him away. Something about that design that just worked for speed.

305 is a great displacement; I bought mine with the stock 305 and though she was slow off the line she went nuts in top gear. I eventually replaced it with the 350, bored it .030 over, because I lived in the mountains and wanted the extra torque for climbing hills. Of course I swapped everything else too, new cam, new rockers, new rods, new lifters, intake, carb, headers--and tore all the smog shit off . Man that was so much fun.
You're bringing back so many memories lol. What you did was a smart move too; chicks dig the muscle car. I asked a girl out on the hood of mine. Today she's my wife.

It was a good date - with lots of wackiness. One of the hottest ladies in all the Twin Towns. I laid it on thick and it was an amazing night. At the end of the night, she was sitting on my lap and steered while I pushed the pedal down as far as it would go. Yep - great night...Then 9 years of hell.... I guess even the Losers Get Unlucky [had to say it before James did].

The worst Petty song has to be Don't Come Around Here No More. Does anyone here actually like that song? Hard to believe it was a hit single.
Yes, I like the song, I also like the trippy music video that goes with it.
I like the song too. In college I dated a girl that looked like the one in the video. All of my friends referred to her as the "Tom Petty chick".

Easy..."Refugee"
Second place would be "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Stevie Nicks.
I only know of his hits, though. Haven't listened to albums straight through.
