Yeah, that one is still golden in my book.
Fortunately, unlike their contemporaries Boston, Foreigner still had a lot of good tunes to lay on us after the debut.

I may have to dodge bullets for my opinion here, but this has always been my most hated classic rock band.

Funny that this is concidered a classic rock album now .. when it was released it was called a hard rock album..as was boston, cheap trick, blue oyster cult and a whole host of classic rock albums.

I don't think he literally means the term, especially since he hates it.

Foreigner is okay by me, I listened to them a bunch from like age 9 to 13 and saw them on the Foreigner 4 tour. Well produced commercial rock.
I still find it interesting that Ian McDonald went from playing in King Crimson to Foreigner, talk about 100% polar opposites.

A great record. The very definition of classic rock.

Those first four Foreigner albums all run together for me. And I mean that in how great I feel they are. They are indistinguishable in their awesomeness. I'm also a huge fan of Lou Gramm's solo outings.

If you can only like "1" Foreigner song then it should be Dirty White Boy.

The Complete Atlantic Studio Albums 1977-1991 will be available on Monday, October 13 and includes all the albums from the original classic run with Mick Jones and Lou Gramm — along with the band's final Atlantic album featuring Johnny Edwards on vocals.
The 7CD set consists of Foreigner, Double Vision, Head Games, 4, Agent Provocateur, Inside Information and Unusual Heat, along with all the bonus tracks included on the 2002 remasters.

The self-titled is bad to the bone. Great record from front to back.

(but in all seriousness his voice was poison)
Here's what I wrote in another forum some time ago:
"See I think my ears are wired differently than Foreigner fans. I do enjoy that style of music, but their tracks sound lifeless and generic compared to many a radio rock band of the era. I had the first four albums as well as the live and listened to them often simply because it seemed like something I should enjoy--but it did nothing but give me a sour stomach. Lou's voice is bland, Mick, who is a fantastic guitar player, sounds tired, and the production on those albums feels so flat to me. But millions disagree, so I'm odd man out with this band, which is cool. "

I never thought much of Foreigner until someone sat me down and made me listen to "I Want to Know What Love Is" and pointed out how absolutely #@$#ing nuts that vocal line is. Seriously, anyone here who even sings in the shower, TRY to sing that thing consistently and with that level of power. It's a beast.
I'll probably be snagging that set when it comes out just to give their deeper cuts a listen and see what the ruckus is about. So far, that series of box set releases hasn't really disappointed.

Agreed. They lost me after Agent Provocateur. Part of that was the incessant playing of "I Want to Know What Love Is." Even though, as Runicen says, the song is a good one, I can't listen to it any more. The rest of that album is just okay compared to the four before it.
As a saxophone player, the tenor solo in "Urgent" still makes me geek out a bit!
Edit: For clarification, I heard "I Want to Know..." too much on the radio and every school dance.
The song "Urgent" came from Foreigner 4, not Agent Provocateur.
