Subject: People who like new power metal? Mon Feb 03, 2014 12:26 pm
It seems lately I get little or no response to bands like Burning Rain or Persuader. A lot of the people who liked that have vamoosed so I was wondering if anyone knows of places that would fit that description? Not mad, not trying to start something, just wondering.

I think that guy that rated everything with numbers (8/10) had another board that catered to more power metal. I vaguley remember getting an invite to it a few years ago.
I can't remember his user name or the board he ran, so this post is probably little-to-no help to you. But at least you're getting a response.

7th Saviour doesn't do boards any longer. He runs about a hundred different Facebook groups now.
BTW, I dig what I heard from Persuader.
Have you heard the latest Armory? Fantastic modern power metal.

Did some listening and it's pretty good. The vocals are kind of off putting to me though.

You should start an all-encompassing Official Dark Horseman Power Metal Thread. You might not get as many clicks for individual bands because people might not be that familiar with them, but if it's all in one place, it's worth a read.

Personally I got real burned out on power metal; I simply OD'd on it. I did the same thing with symphonic metal and female-fronted metal. Yet somehow glam/sleaze and AC/DC clones just never get old for me.

Burning Rain is power metal? I always thought of them as being in the Dokken/Lynch Mob/Whitesnake mode. I have their first two but I haven't gotten the new one yet. Either way, they rock and I'll pick up the new one at some point.
Like others have said, I am kind of burnt out on Euro Power Metal at this point. I find myself gravitating toward more USPM and new bands that emulate that sound.

I LOVE POWER METAL!! But I prefer the more melodic/traditional side of it. I can't take much of the speed side...

Ok, Burning Rain isn't power metal. Nice list there Rob. I keep hoping for more from Nocturnal Rites but it's been awhile so they may be done.

That is a nice list, and I like the blazing fast stuff as much as anything (like Cage or Sonata Arctica for instance) unless I'm in the mood for super melodic (Masterplan, for instance).

I know Nils Norberg left and man was he easily one of my fav lead guitar players. These guys kind of went away from their older power metal sound on their last release The 8th Sin, which was more melodic rock/metal.. I rly dig Jonny's vocals..
This album has some killer singers on it... Russell Allen, Ralf Scheepers, David Readman, Mark Boals, and some other great vocalists, as well as Magnus himself!!!

I can listen to Sonata Arctica and never get bored. I like modern power metal, my tastes are just very specific though. I guess there's a certain type of D&D metal cheese that appeals to me.

That Mystic Prophecy album is there best if you ask me. Good Pyramaze song, always enjoy them. Need to check out more Nightmare.
