Anyone that knows me, knows how much I love the guitar and how much I love melody in my music. Guitar solos to me can really enhance a song if done right. A lot of guitar players out there today, have become too technical and it takes away from some of the melody of the music..

I will always prefer a slower more melodic solo over shred any day!! I love shredding, but I just prefer the more melodic times...

In this thread, I will post videos every once in a while of songs that have been released in the last 5-10 years that have some amazing guitar solos...

This solo is a prime example of how much tone and melody can make a solo shine. Jason Hook has a very tasteful style about him and he nails it with this solo!!!

This solo has a tremendous build up and a perfect rhythm track to solo over...

This solo has a lot more bite and ends on a great somber note. Some fantastic runs mixed with a very progressive backdrop of music...Solo starts around the 5 minute mark..

One of my favorite recent guitar solos is Guthrie Govan's improvised solo for "Drive Home" from Steven Wilson's most recent solo album.

The guitar solo on the album was the first take he attempted, he did a few more passes but Wilson thought the spontaneity of the first take was the best choice for the song.

The guitar solo begins at 5:09.
