Hmm, What happens when a bunch of black metal guys get together to make a straight up heavy metal record?
This apparently!
I quite like it, enough to check out the album at least.

Seconded. I am not big into black metal, but Immortal is one band I can definitely listen to.
And the I record, along with Demonaz's "March of the Norse", definitely give you a good dose of black-ish metal spliced with rock n' roll and straight forward heavy metal.
I will check out Twilight of the Gods.

I thought this would be about the Helloween song of the same name (which I love), but the actuality is a pleasant surprise. This sounds pretty good.

They are called Twilight of the Gods after the Bathory album, not the Helloween song. These guys originally got together to do a tribute show to Bathory but decided to write some stuff together too more in an early 80's metal style and this is the result.

Is this a supergroup? Are the guys all in black metal bands, or was it just the original idea you mentioned where some guys who wanted to do the Bathory tribute thing got together to do it, but were not in bands already?
