RIP: My Father-In-Law

A devastating blow was dealt to my wife today as her father died of heart failure. He was a great man who served hard in Vietnam and was a lover of people. He was more sacrificial than anyone I know, and taught me a great deal. This is going to turn life upside down and inside out, but the worst part is losing a dear friend. RIP Papa Gary Williams, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Rough, to say the least, but at least he made things a little easier to handle before he left. His wife is getting a decent life insurance cut, and the cremation/internment spot has been payed for since he's a vet. His wife is also fairly self-sufficient with a full-time job and no debt. That's a lot to be grateful for. But he's so missed. Lots of tears, sleepless nights, fighting off depression--and I'm not really talking about me. He and my wife were very close and have been through a lot together as father and daughter. Also, with my father always being distant, this man embraced my companionship and gave me confidence to be a better man for his daughter. Seriously, I got f*cking lucky with my in-laws. They're two of the most beautiful people in the whole world.

[btw cause of death was a second bought with flash pulmonary edema, a condition where your lungs fill with fluid--dry drowning, if you will. His heart was too weak to pump out the residual fluid. This time they couldn't get his heart started again. He was 65. Too young.]
