This is where I'm a strange boy. I've always considered Metal Church thrash. For me power metal doesn't get so aggressive while being so fast. Overkill walked that line as well with their melodies, and they've always been known as a thrash band. Again, I don't expect anyone else to share this perspective.
I've heard others who thought the same thing.
Just out of curiosity, do you consider iced earth thrash or power?

Armored Saint is "HEAVY METAL", no other description is required unless you're talking to a complete idiot.

Power. Heavy, yes, but doesn't have that aggression (I like to call it 'the nasty') that thrash has. Also a heavy emphasis on melody. Awesome band, too, one of my favorites.

I would call AS heavy metal as well. It's pretty straight forward and traditional.

Iced Earth could be considered thrash, but only in a few songs. Stand Alone is definitely a thrash metal song. Iced Earth, normally, has the speed and melody that defines power metal, but they have their thrash influences. I agree with calling them power metal though.
Armored Saint is definitely good old classic heavy metal.

Armored Saint would be one of the first bands that comes to mind for me when somebody says "Heavy Metal". And it's not just the music either. The band name and album covers scream metal.
I actually liked their last one La Raza a lot. And their two dvds are some of my music favorites.

I agree. I thought La Raza was really good. Chilled is my favorite track off it.

Like many said, Iced Earth incorporates some thrash into their power metat, especially the Barlow years.

The self titled album with whats-his-face as the singer was pretty thrash. I wish Barlow never left. His voice is PERFECT for Iced Earth.

It is but my favorite by them is TGB. Ripper really nails the vocals on it.

Night of the Stormrider was pretty much thrash as well, and kickass at that.
TGB is my favorite as well, but whether it be Adam, Greely, Barlow, Ripper, or Block, they've all done a great job in their respective releases, and those last three are certainly Iced Earth.

Armored Saint is Heavy Metal. Only ever had the first two, but after reading this, I need to investigate what they've done since.

TGB is really awesome. My first iced earth. But in my opinion, their magnum opus remains the dark saga.
On topic, I need to acquire some armored saint.

King Fowley used to tell me that all Iced Earth albums sound like 'Master Of Puppets' played backwards...

I don't hear thrash in Iced Earth. It's just very heavy and aggressive US power metal. There's influences, but it's not chaotic enough to be 'thrash'.

Been listening to these guys since my older brother brought home March of the Saints on vinyl in 1983, to me they have not put out a bad album. Love Nod to the Old School, great version of Trower's Day of the Eagle and Priest's Never Satisfied.

Take a listen:
False Alarm is one of the most head-bangable songs out there
Wouldn't normally say this but if a metalhead ever bags out Armored Saint than theres definitely something wrong with them. An essential band for headbangers to listen to.

So far I own delirious nomad, march of the saint, symbol of salvation and revelation.
Still need some counseling about LA RAZA though. Any advice?
La raza is a grower and a great album however there are a few songs on the album that I don't like either because they sound too modern pop rock or sound like left over trax from Anthrax's sound of white noise. Still they are some gems on the album and the reviewers who bagged out the album don't know what they are talking about.
