He gave a unique perspective to his instrument when it was really needed.
Man did I have alot of good memories associated with listening to The Doors as a pup.

Not a huge Doors fan but they are one of rock's iconic bands and Ray's keyboards were a large part of that IMO. RIP

Man.
Not a huge Doors guy either although I am with certain aspects of their sound, or certain songs, but Ray was what I like to term a true musician, meaning somebody who really understands music in a simple, but deepest way. They can be sound engineers sometimes, they don't even have to professionally play an instrument, but someone who *speaks the language*, they are few and far between and oft overlooked. From all the interviews I read, Ray was exactly one of those. RIP man..

This sucks!!! I am a huge huge Doors fan and his organ playing with its sometimes circus like atmosphere and his right hand bass lines, where a huge part of The Doors sound.
It was also Ray Manzarek who convinced a shy poet to turn his verse into music and become a vocalist, even thou Morrison had never sang before in his life.
This is huge loss to me, but he left behind a lifetime of music and memories.
I hope Jim Morrison was waiting for him with a beer and an invite to a jam session.

Love this band, Ray was always my favorite. The crazy thing is recently I've been on an organ/keyboard based music kick lately and he was the guy I went first to absorb it in. Big loss, but so happy to have the music around to enjoy. Memory Eternal! RIP big guy.

Not to mention his solo in the full-length version, which Ray said was inspired by Coltrane.

Ray's playing helped give the Doors a different sound from other classic rock bands. His style was very colorful and unique.

It should be noted that it was Ray Manzarek that talked a shy poet into turning his verse into music and fronting the band. Little did he know that act alone would change rock history.
When Manzarek's brothers bailed on the Doors, because they felt that Jim Morrison was a bit 'weird', it was Manzarek who recruited John Densmore and Robby Krieger.
After Jim Morrison's death, after he got over the hurt and anger at Morrison's self destruction, he was the keeper of the flame, overseeing the DVD releases, and being the main spokesman for the band years after they no longer existed.
The band as a whole were incredible, the interplay between Krieger and Manzarek live was always highlight, the entire band was just able to read each other so well.

so sad but otherwise its good, he met Jim up there. Ray's influences are/was big, if there was no Ray there were no Doors and Jim. thank for the people like Ray. both togeher are already Riders on the storm.
what is bad that, time is coming for other stars in ages and there's no replacement, there's gonna be a big black hole for the future !
