| The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula K LeGuin. She's the author of one of my favorite fantasy series, so I figured I'd read one of her sci-fi books. If you like fantasy, and never read her Earthsea books, I highly recommend the first three. Guess she wrote more of them years later, but I haven't read them yet.
Whatever you do, don't watch the tv movie they made a few years ago, it was terrible. Even she thought it was terrible.

| Just finished reading C.S. Lewis' space trilogy. It's a good series, but it's really weird to approach from a "sci-fi" perspective. Technically correct, but it's closer to uncut Christian allegory - further than the Narnia books would take it later on.
Solid reads, but I was probably helped by re-reading Mere Christianity not too long ago, so I zeroed in on the themes he was after pretty quickly. If this was the first anyone read of his, I could see confusion reigning...
About to start: So, Anyway... by John Cleese.

Thanks for the recommendation. I found the Cleese book by accident while ordering the three volumes of Michael Palin's diaries. Kind of went in not sure what to expect, but the fact that I was laughing before page 10 is a good sign. These autobiographies usually bore me to tears when covering the author's formative years. Cleese bucked that trend in a big way. - Mglaffas81 wrote:

| Leviathan Wakes, by the authors James S. A. Corey. These guys are pretty good so far. This is the first book in a series of 8? There is also an Amazon series based on the books called The Expanse. Not sure if it follows the books or is just set in the same universe. Only a third of the way through the first book, but so far so good. | |
