Shocked no one has mentioned Smoke on the Water yet.
But, being the homer that I am, School of Fish dropped Johnny Clueless in their biggest "hit". That was the first one to pop into my head. Johnny Clueless was a very popular band in our scene in the early 90's.

That song also name drops "Funky Claude" who is Claude Nobs, founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival, he just passed away a couple weeks ago.

"The first step of your cure is a KISS!!!!" I always felt in the live setting that Gene sang it like it was the band and not the action......
I take that back, his ego was probably thinking that he was KISS and he was the cure

Chuck Berry told Beethoven to roll over and mention the news to Tchaikovsky. Does that count?

I know live doesn't really count, but since we there is an abundance of T. Rex mentions being...mentioned:
On Alice Cooper's live record A Fistful of Alice, before playing "Teenage Lament '74", he says something about how they next song they are playing is so glam T. Rex would be embarassed. Something along those lines...haven't heard the record in a while.

Bad Biscut has a song called "Thunders Falling" which is an ode to the late NY Dolls guitarist Johnny Thunders. One of the lyrics goes "Played with Dolls at seventeen, one track mind was so obscene..."

Oh, speaking of Dio references...
Jorn had "Song for Ronnie James"
and Tenacious D, didn't they have a Dio-related song too, but before he died?

seemed more mocking than tribute.

^^ Dio obviously had a sense of humor about that, though. After all, the Tenacious D guys turned up in Dio's video for "Push" a few years after that.
