| Sales of new LPs continues to rise (the only physical format on the increase).
Queens Of The Stone Age sold 12,000 copies of their new release "...Like Clockwork" on vinyl in the first week of release (91,000 copies total including other formats).
Daft Punk's latest album moved 19,000 copies on vinyl in the first 2 weeks of release. |

| There was an article in the NY Times this past week about increasing vinyl sales and new vinyl factories popping up. I guess that stores like Hastings and Best Buy are carrying vinyl, or will be soon. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| My local Best Buys are carrying vinyl, and quite a bit, at about 20 bucks a pop. I would hope to see more mom and pop record stores open or re-open (we used to have six and are now down to none) if this type of thing can generate more revenue. But I think we're a ways off from that, depending on the area. | |

no, they were just LP's in paper sleeves, no LP jackets. Not really any kind of resale value to 'em (although they are in very good shape with no skips and ticks), they dont seem printed up to be for sale, no track listings or any other info other than band names, just for disc jockey purposes. You know, the LP's are sides 1 and 3 and the others are 2 and 4 so they can spin them continuously for radio broadcasts. They include sponser advertisements at the beginning and end of each side, with Budweiser, Honda, Pioneer, and other jingles leading the way, as well as the famous KBFH dude narrarating it all. Classic KBFH stuff. Love it.
sorry, for some reason the quote thingy is messed up so I just aded to your post.

| I have fond memories of a lot of those syndicated radio shows since my little rinky-dink local station played them every night. King Biscuit show was Sunday Night. Rock Over London was Monday. The Westwood ones were Tues-Thurs. Friday was Metal Shop. Saturday was Pirate Radio USA. I used to have my mom tape the weekend ones on cassette since as a teenager I would be out for the night. Would come home and instantly pop them in the walkman. Good times.
As far as collecting goes the King Biscuit and Westwood stuff is fairly common. But still a steal at a buck. Especially those early 80's ones. Most of what I come across is on cd from later on. If you ever find Metal Shop ones you've hit a goldmine. Those suckers go for like 80.00 bucks a pop. I have feelers out at various stores I frequent and so far even they haven't had any come through. And as far as I've ever been able to tell Metal Shop was still sending the stations vinyl even in the late 80's.

A couple of new ones have opened in my area in the past couple years. And the main local music store, which has always carried vinyl, seems to be shifting out of CDs, or at least focusing less, and focusing more on vinyl. I love vinyl, but I rarely have time to listen to music at home, so it makes vinyl kind of useless. The main time at home I have to listen to music is Saturday and Sunday morning while hanging out/chasing around my 18-month-old son. Within the past month though, he has been obsessed with The Wiggles. If he sees me touch the stereo, he wants The Wiggles, post haste. Heh.

Thankfully when bought Screaming for Vengeance on vinyl my son loved the artwork and had me play it constantly. But yes vinyl is just not mobile. I rarely have a chance to spin anymore. But I'll still collect for sure. Then, when the kids are grown and out of the house, I will have that special time again with my turntable, amp, and HiFi headphones...

| Yes, I've been to a bunch of 'em. If you are looking for rare and mint condition metal and hard rock... Wax Trax Records Inc 2909 S Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV However, they are not cheap. The guy knows what he has and how much it's worth.
Record City and Zia Records are both good to find gems in though they tend to overprice stuff that is more common. However, it's odd because you'll find the rare gem for cheap. I picked up a couple of those records for under $2 in great condition. The Randy Rhoads bootleg I've seen for as much as $40. They had it for under $10. Go figure. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Make sure you hit up both Zia locations - one on Eastern and the other on Sahara. The thing about Zia is they have some great hard to find stuff and pretty much mark it ten or less. As Ult said, the more common stuff they'll overprice. Generally they are one of those places where they don't put a priority on metal so they mark it to move. Also check the other sections too since they're categorizing can be screwy.
If anyone ever makes it to the Zia at Arizona State that place is a treasure trove for metal vinyl. I make it down there once a year and always kick myself for what I left behind.

| Just got a new turntable and getting back into vinyl. Growing up my favorite album was Styx Paradise Theatre. Loved the laser etched hologram on side 2. I still wonder how they did that. Picked it up for $2.25. My wife also ordered some 180 gram Beatles remasters. Currently we have no used store in my area of Florida. FYE has a very small section at the mall but that's all we have so we look on ebay and amazon for good buys but you really can't physically look at those. In Nashville this week on business and visited a very cool store called Ernest Tubb Record Shop. Nice inside and ALL vinyl was brand new but it was also country. No other musical styles. But the old Waylon albums from the 70's were still in shrink wrap. Only about 12.98 to 29.98 and the higher priced ones were brand new Elvis Records from the 50's and 60's (not original I'm sure but they looked like it on the front and back of the jacket). There was another store next door that was closed and its probably good that they were because the place was huge. They boast having 3 or 4 levels, check it out. http://lawrencerecordshop.com/ | |
