| Love clean vocals. I wouldn't mind some screaming and screetching in a song though EDGUY have become a favourite band for me lately | |

| I think you would like the latest Ensiferum album, Unsung Heroes. It has both clean and extreme vocals, and also female vocals. | |

| I think that Power Metal does less well in the States because you have less of a tradition for getting blind drunk and having a good old sing song than we do here in Europe. | |

| A lot of American metalheads especially nowadays are middle class hipsters who - because we're such an underprivileged, third world country - totally and exclusively relate to 'extreme' music focusing on the prospects of nuclear war, gore, and mostly just general White Male Anger Towards Stuff. Or, really, the lyrics could be about Care Bears as long as it's br00tal and face melting. No ga-hey clean vocals or choruses allowed unless it's Dream Theater who are totally sick musicians dude. | |

| I like both styles of vocals. I am more of an underground metal fan though and love death and the more extreme styles of thrash over other styles. The herber skerber ands and all those bands people refer to as "sick" and "Brutal" are just run of the mill bands. I look for music and vocals that can move me or have a certain meaning.
With Power Metal or a lot of these classic style bands that are coming out, not many bands really hit that mark for me. Either the vocals are too weak or the music is too soft or happy and I HATE that! Not all of them, but most are like that to me.
What really bothers me are all the Phil Anselmo wannabe's in the vocal department and everything "core"!

| It's funny that people have said that they don't like Power Metal because it's too happy and there was a time I would have been on that train too, and to be honest, I do find most PM far too cheesy, but as I was watching the DTP addicted vid it hit me that Devin, Anneke and Co seemed so blissfully happy to be performing what is at times really intense, heavy music and it hit me that Metal in general has become far too one dimensional for my tastes and that it's okay to have a fun Metal record, it really doesn't have to be all about zombies eating your elbows or how rubbish the government is, this seems to have got lost somewhere in the metal scene. There are other emotions other than, anger, despair and hatred and sometimes I want to hear them in my music. That said, I'm not a fan of plain stupid either. | |

| Power metal for me is the heavy technical riffing, blast beats and even down-tuning of thrash fused with the grooves, hooks and power vocals of classic metal or hair metal. Couple that with fantastical themes and imagery, some keys and you've got some epic metal. I only wish I'd of listened to folks around here and checked it out years ago! But it's that description that has me going back to it these days so often.
6 out of 7 days I'm WOOOORGIN out. But recently, it's gotten slightly more even. I SAID SLIGHTLY.

| On power metal, I think what has happened is that we're now getting bands who were influenced by the original batch of power metal bands, and naturally they're going to sound like their influences. So 15-20 years ago you had bands who were establishing a new genre, the new crop aren't offering that much in the way of anything new, which is going to lead to people being of the opinion that the genre has stagnated.
That's not to say there aren't good new power metal bands around - there are certainly some who may not be doing anything innovative, but what they do they do really well. But there are also plenty of mediocre ones out there who are simply doing the same old thing and not doing it any better than anyone else.
It's a problem that every genre faces after a while, and power metal is certainly no exception.
