R.I.P.D. is a MEGA-FLOP. You can add it to the ever-growing list of $150 million plus films that have tanked at the box office this year.
In happier news, reasonably budgeted "The Conjuring" ($20 million) is kicking ass at the box office and will easily break even on opening weekend.
I want the studios to make 10 films in the $20 million dollar range instead of 1 behemoth that costs $200 million.

I enjoyed RED 2 immensely, hilarious and entertaining, one of the most satisfying experiences of the year for me.
The Conjuring looks pretty bad, i'm staying far away from that one(Death Sentence was the only James Wan film I actually liked, I found Saw to be immensely overrated and Insidious pathetic and not scary at all like critics said, I expect the sequel to suck even worse). I will be seeing R.I.P.D. tomorrow as that looks pretty fun. Can't say i'm surprised it flopped though, given the stiff competition and the comic book not being very well known. I've got nothing against expensive films, but I think it would be in the studios best interests to stagger them apart a bit more, then maybe films like RIPD wouldn't bomb so hard, I think that film might've done better if it was released in say October instead of in the middle of summer.

I had read some of the RIPD strip and enjoyed it. Had no idea they were making a movie until a week ago. That budget is astounding for something so obscure, though. They really could have tightened it up some.
As for the Conjuring, I'm hearing widely mixed reactions to it, and I do respect Wan, but I'm just plain tired of supernatural horror movies with the same damn drab poster art.

Me too, as far as horror films go I tend to prefer slasher and creature films over supernatural ones. I respect Wan but most of his films just aren'y my cup of tea, I am eager to see how he handles Fast And Furious 7 though.
I heard there wasn't much in the way of promotion for RIPD(though there was plenty in my area)so that might be another reason for it's failure.

R.I.P.D. is one of those films the studio knew was terrible and would probably flop, the test screenings were disastrous. But with a budget that large they had no choice but to release it and try to make whatever money they can. The minimal advertising campaign and declining to screen it for critics are hallmarks of a studio not having any real faith in the film.

I never heard a thing about it till about a week ago, when trailers started turning up on TV.
...and the more I saw of the trailer, the more I thought it looked like a "Men in Black" ripoff, with dead people instead of aliens.

I wouldn't use the term "rip-off", I liked the MIB series so I don't consider the similarities to be a bad thing.

Fast & Furious 6 (really?) is getting ready to cross $500 million in ticket sales. The F&F series is now the biggest money grossing series in the over 100 year history of Universal Pictures.

Hey I love that franchise! Just cause someone likes F&F does not automatically mean they have low intelligence
Anyways i'm happy to hear that it's doing so well.

Just when you thought it was safe to return to the movie theater....
...some moron cast Keanu Reeves in an uber-budget samurai film?
Seriously, how does this guy keep getting film roles?

This whole ordeal doesn't make sense. The director is a first-time unknown with a couple of shorts under his belt. The writers have done sporadic high concept work, nothing notable. And Keanu is the only american cast against a sea of japanese actors, but unlike The Last Samurai, he is actually scripted as a native shogun. It's also the first Hollywood adaptation of the old 47 Ronin folk tale, but has been done countless times ago. So the question is why did the studio decide to throw so much money at it, especially considering, as you said, that Keanu is as non-actor as they come?

I actually think Reeves is a pretty good actor, but 47 Ronin just does not look very good, it's been on the shelf for quite awhile now, and i'm starting to see why.

This will be a disaster, Mr. Smith.

We made it through SHARKNADO... but will we survive GHOST SHARK??
Seriously. I'm not making this up. It exists and it's coming to SyFy in August. Starring Richard "Night Court" Moll and a grown-up Mackenzie Rosman, who was the little daughter "Ruthie" on "7th Heaven."

They were having a Shark-a-thon on SyFy over the weekend and, stuck inside on a rainy day, watched a few of those flicks even though I had seen them before. They showed this promo during the day. Funny thing is, there's such a thing as a ghost shark.

Richard Moll? Sweet. Funny guy. But seriously, the first thing I thought when I read this was "Ghost Dad," and I think that's how it should be made, as an homage to Ghost Dad.

Only the shark in the original Batman movie has impressed me. I've found all other movie sharks to be less than convincing.
One upcoming film that I will be seeing is this one
I really liked the first film so am looking forward to this. By the trailer in looks as though it might be a bit darker and teenage angst ridden than the first film. Hope that they hold on to the humor though as the balance was just right first time around.
