| I made sure that my boys knew that there was more to music than what was on the radio very early! I've taken them to Judas Priest/Whitesnake, BOC/Alice Cooper, Dream Theater/Iron Maiden. They definitely know my musical preferences! They have in recent years gone in their own directions, however. The eldest (now a sophomore in college) has been listening to a lot of post-rock (Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky) and the younger (freshman in high school) has gone toward singer songwriters (older Ben Folds, Beatles) and lately, thanks to his band director, has been exploring some jazz. (He was watching a live performance of the Dave Brubeck Quartet's Take Five from 1966 on YouTube the other day! ) They both enjoy Mumford and sons as well (and make fun of Nickelback. YES!). What I really appreciate is that they have learned to explore and not go for a certain "artist" just because they are popular. I consider my musical parenting a job well done! FF, I said all that to say this: your efforts will not go unrewarded. Great start! | |
