Want something shocking in your holiday stocking? The horror flick "Silent Night" is opening in limited theatrical release in early December, then hitting DVD in mid-month.
This flick is described as a "loose" remake of the notorious 1984 Santa Slasher flick Silent Night, Deadly Night -- i.e., it doesn't follow the story of the old version other than the fact that there's a wackjob in a Santa suit killing people.
Malcolm McDowell plays the small town sheriff trying to stop the psycho Santa. I guess he's the "go-to" guy for these types of roles in low rent slasher films due to his stints in Rob Zombie's "Halloween" flicks.

It's soon that time of year when I break out stuff like this.
Freddy does his Schlocktober viewing I do my December to Dismember viewing. Among the usual fare:
Silent Night Deadly Night Black Christmas Santa's Slay Nightmare Before Christmas Jeff Dunham Christmas Special
I'll probably add this one to the collection once it's out on DVD. I still need to pick up a Norwegian film depicting Santa as some kind of demon. I forget the name of it but last time I checked it was too expensive.
EDIT: Just added 2 more for this year's viewing. Gingerdead Man 1 and Gingerdead Man 2 - The Passion Of The Crust. Double feature DVD I got off Amazon for about $6 ppd.
EDIT 2: Found that Norwegian film (Rare Exports) and another Dutch film called Saint Nick. Added both of them too.

Nice list! According to Amazon, "Silent Night" comes out on DVD/BluRay on December 4th if ya wanna snag it. It'll be at RedBox the following week so I'll check it out then. My kids would probably be traumatized by the sight of a psycho Santa Claus on our DVD shelf so for me it's a "rent" rather than a "buy."
...oh, and on the same day Anchor Bay is re-issuing the first two "SN,DN" flicks in a single DVD pack to coincide with the release of the remake, but I imagine you probably have those already.

That is, I still am, I just never get to watch those movies anymore.
Fortunately my wife likes horror movies too and even if I bring home a movie she may not dig, she's been working nights lately so I can watch'em myself without being bothered. (I have a feeling that I might be on my own with "Silent Night" - she doesn't share my taste for the real sleazy exploitative crap, haha)...

You've got to see it FF! It's right up your cheesy B-movie alley. Plus it also features Dave Thomas as a minister who's a regular at the local strip club. Lots of gratuitous nudity ensues until Santa decides to drop in.

Got this one from RedBox on my way home from work... will be watchin' it later this evening. Keep an eye on the "Today I Watched" thread for my take on it!

Watched this last night. Fun flick for the most part, except that they seemingly forgot to write an ending...

I thought this was a remake of that series. Seems to be the same plot... Psycho Santa punishing the "naughty".
The new film describes itself as a "loose remake," i.e. other than the fact that there's a psycho Santa in it, the flick doesn't follow the story of the original "SN, DN." So there's no "Ricky," no "Billy," no "Mother Superior," etc.
However, there is a "Garbage Day" reference in the new flick, which made me laugh.
"Silent Night Deadly Night" was not the first movie to use the "Killer Santa" plot line anyway. There were at least two that I know of which preceded it - "Christmas Evil" (aka "You Better Watch Out!") and "To All A Good Night."
...and now that I've embarrassed myself with yet another example of how much useless trivial crap is clogging up my brain, I'm gonna go have another beer.
