Ouch...... just wrong! We could all come up with a much better list (as usual when it comes to this list!)
And no Maiden????? 11:58 should be SOMEWHERE on that list!!!!
I got news for you man. Maiden (along with many, many other bands) stole that riff from Riot:

"Start Me Up" is one of the most identifiable guitar riffs in history, it's probably programmed into peoples DNA at this point. It most certainly deserves to be on the list.
If the list was called "Most Memorable METAL riffs of the 80s" then I could see people complaining, but it's not.
Gotta be honest, I had to look up "start me up" on the 'tube because I had no idea what it sounded like. Then that opening riff starts and I turned it off. Man, I know that riff all to well. Instant recall.

They included Rush, so I can't complain. It's a pretty good list considering the other lists like this are usually abysmal, so it gets a thumbs up from me just by default.

"There are actually two guitar parts interwoven on this seemingly simple blast from Pyromania."
What two guitars parts are interwoven on "Photograph?" A second guitar might come in, but it's playing the same damn riff. And that riff is not "seemingly" simple, it's plain old simple! Haha.
I do agree with "Back In Black," "Breaking the Law," and "Rock You Like A Hurricane," but where is "Smoke On The Water" or "Balls To The Wall?" Pffft!
When I think of the best riffs ever, I try to think of those that are not just catchy but iconic, you know. The aforementioned five, songs like "Enter Sandman," "Four Play/Long Time," "La Grange," "Bad To The Bone," etc. To me, those are beyond catchy.

That would be a slightly controversial choice for a list of 80's riffs.

I almost did the same thing by mentioning the riff machine, Tony Iommi. Luckily I caught the 80s part in time and deleted the post before anyone saw it. However, the Dio stuff was early 80s so they could have picked at least one.

Always thought "Start Me Up" was recorded in the late sixties, early seventies. Honestly, Richards barely even sounds like he's playing guitar, more like ringing a bell - I've never liked it.
