| It's weird because I know a couple of metal journalists and have read others talking about metals' biggest dickheads and the same names pop up again and again, and again
3. Gene & Paul 2. Blackie Lawless 1. Kevin DuBrow (sorry to speak ill of the dead, but apparently he was the worst!!)
And yet you all love those guys.
Personally I'd take an evening with Tate over ten seconds in the company of either Ozzy, or Tommy Lee too!

| When you look at and observe Blackie, and then look at and observe those who talk it up who used to be in W.A.S.P., and where he is now, and where they are now, it's a little bit obvious to me who didn't totally have it in 'em to get to that place in music. And given that the business is what it is, and people are who they are, I really don't blame him too much even when he was out of line to be honest. | |

Personally I'd take an evening with Tate over ten seconds in the company of either Ozzy, or Tommy Lee too! When did any of those guys grab a fan's phone and pitch it into the audience? When did any of those guys tell a crowd that they sucked? I don't care how they treat music journalists, but rather how do they treat the fans that paid to see them. Tate is a jackass and treats his fans poorly.

So the only things that you care about are the specific, douchey things that Tate has done, but you absolutely don't care about any douchey thing that anyone, who's music you like has done? It's hard to argue with that stance! All I'm saying is that a lot of rock stars become egomaniac buttholes, some treat fans with utter disdain (Richie Blackmore?) but that hatred for Tate is so over the top! Were the people he told sucked really his fans? (as has been claimed)

| At this point, I kind of expect musicians to be @$$holes. I don't care how GT acts anymore...or anyone else for that matter. I don't have to hang out with these people...I just have to choose whether or not to listen to their music. GT being a douche doesn't make Mindcrime any less awesome... _________________ FINAL SIGN

When did I say I didn't like Queensryche by the way? I don't recall making that statement, although I haven't really followed the band since Empire. Of course some musicians are assholes, just like some normal people are assholes. Tate gets the treatment he deserves for his very public stupidity. Gene & Paul are probably jerks, but they have the good sense to treat the fans well. Tate isn't even that smart, and thus he gets the hate. He's a buffoon.

It sucks that he died, but I didn't like him at all. He was a jerk when I met him.
My friends dad worked security at a bar they were playing at 2 years ago and got us in to see them. We sat in during sound check, which he missed, and hung out with the band before the show. They were all really cool. After the show we asked him to take a picture with us and he said no. We got picture's with the other members of the band and we talk with them for a few hours. The guitar player showed me some stuff on guitar (I was new at the time) and the drummer was a really nice guy. He went into the Lounge area with 2 girls and wouldn't let anybody in. He acted like he was the greatest singer in the world, and had a huge ego. Lemmy on Blackie, and the incident that caused Motorhead to walk away from the joint headlining tour http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=49709 As a fan, I'd be much more upset by not getting to see the band I wanted to see, than being told I suck. The Gene & Paul example has been kindly provided by Shawn. There are loads of examples of this kind of stuff. (and some allegations about DuBrow that I'll not repeat as I don't know that they are true and are pretty serious) I'm not even claiming Tate is a nice guy, I just think that the venom has gotten a little out of hand. When did I ever claim that you didn't like Queensryche? I don't even understand that comment.

Charging for autographs IS insulting the audience. The audience already bought your album, ticket, t-shirt...an autograph on one of those should be a courtesy. It's handwriting...it's not talent or art. _________________ FINAL SIGN

When you wrote this, "So the only things that you care about are the specific, douchey things that Tate has done, but you absolutely don't care about any douchey thing that anyone, who's music you like has done?" I thought you were referring to me not liking Queensryche. I guess you weren't. As far as the Blackie/Motorhead thing, I was actually at one of the last shows of that tour. Motorhead played and left the stage and then WASP came on and only played about 2/3 of their set because of some problem with all those stupid props. It was a debacle. However, did Blackie insult me personally? Not really, but he should have finished the show. Motorhead blew them off the stage anyway. My overall point here is that asshole musicians should have better PR. Geoff is a dullard that doesn't understand this. Thus he gets the treatment he does. It's really that simple. He can be the biggest jerk in the world, but just dont' do it when cameras are around. Certainly don't do it at shows that are being filmed for the world to see, and then act surprised that people find you repellent.

It's handwriting...it's not talent or art. I would agree that artists should autograph for free, but I am sure the complete lack of album sales has forced some of them into fan-fleecing behavior. I have never personally paid for an autograph and I doubt I would.

| There are loads of examples of people being rock-star assholes, and there are loads of fan complaints. You're acting like we can't discuss Tate's antics without also trashing every other dingleberry musician out there. How would any of that be relevant to this discussion?
The Tate discussion is current; Tate's descent into public buffoonery is going on now. And we're discussing it accordingly.
And like I said, it's public. Kevin DuBrow being a jerk to a fan at some random concert is hardly the same thing. Is there video of DuBrow spitting on a bandmate, telling a crowd of paying customers that they suck, calling paying customers who leave his show early "pussies," or taking a paying customer's expensive cell phone and chucking it away toward the back of the venue? Are there loads of interviews where DuBrow flat out lies and contradicts himself on a near daily basis? Are there interviews where DuBrow claims to have written 80% of Quiet Riot's music despite ZERO evidence showing that he's ever even written ONE SONG by himself?
Come on, dude. | |
