big claim to fame was being in Beautiful Creatures.
Which explains why Cleopatra chose him...
But hey, he gets paid to make music...more power to him.

That's largely been the case with every album since Q2K, with a couple great ones here and there.

I actually like "Cold" a lot. Very modern rock sound. If the rest of the album is similar, I'll probably enjoy it.

Ehh... it's OK, if a bit bland. I was honestly expecting it to sound worse after the constant comedy of errors over the past couple of weeks.
Oh, damn. I really like this song. Hell, it's better than nearly every song from the post-DeGarmo era.
i think this is ok. It is a lot better than their last album.

Pretty dern good. I really want to hate anything from that bald douche, but honestly, I can live with this. Of course, I'd have to hear some more before making a definite decision.

That is faint praise, considering how horrid their last album was.

Some live clips, nothing from Mindcrime, but we got Best I Can, Jet Woman and a cover of Neon Knights.
"Cold" sounds like the same generic modern rock that Geoff has been delivering on the past several QR albums.
If Geoff is really "moving forward" why doesn't he just pursue his solo career rather than milking the QR name?

The new band sounds great live.
The QR name is worth 20 times the $$$. Same reason Iommi kept the name BLACK SABBATH.
Most casual fans just know the name, they don't care who's in the band.
(And if they do care all they care about is the singer. Among many people singer = band)

That is a good song. More Alterna-Geoff-with-a-splash-of-metal stuff, which is 0% progressive, but it is more listenable than the last 3 attempts. Hearing how good he sounds on here, and how awful the lead is, it really sucks that he and the other Rÿche couldn't get it together.

Agreed. It's the same thing with Great White, while I liked Elation, it just dosen't sound like Great White without Jack Russell.

True. Agree about Great White as well.
Who knows, may be we will get two good releases under the QR name from this split.

I think if he doesn't like Metal nowadays, that can be inspiration to "show the kiddies how it's done". I'm not going to expect much, but I'm hopeful

I think there is a misconception about Tate "not liking Metal".
I think that :
A- he likes Metal in the sense that he likes the Metal that he was influenced by (Sabbath, Priest) but not so much other/more recent Metal bands (his contemporaries) and...
B- just because he wants to expand on it and not be relegated to a strict "Heavy Metal" boundary doesn't necessarily mean he "doesn't like Metal" as much as he "doesn't like to be ONLY Metal".
I mean, none of us here like "only" Metal...I'll go from Cannibal Corpse to Phil Collins in the same day...it doesn't make me less of a Metal fan. We can't expect the musicians we like to only like the style we expect them to play.

Agreed.
It is also common for musicians to not listen to the style of music that they play regularly, I've read many interviews over the years where artists said they purposely avoid listening to the same style because they don't want to be unduly influenced by what other bands are doing.

The complaint shouldn't be about what Tate listens to or is into outside of Queensryche; it should be about the fact that he has abandoned his own music, his own "metal," if you will.

Some musicians prefer to expand their sound and go a different direction, if he dosen't feel like doing metal anymore, then he shouldn't force himself to do it just because the fans want him to. If doing modern rock is what makes him happy, then i'm fine with it.

what Pelata said. For me, it would be nice if he would stop the alterna-Geoff thing now, which as I've mentioned is far, far rode out. I'd like to hear something like say 'sp00l' or 'Chasing Blue Sky' which actually goes somewhere.
All that being said, I do find it amusing that metal is one of the only genres I know of with this huge air of embarrassment about it, even with the musicians themselves. Nobody ever gives a good shit whether a hip hop artist or grunge heyday artist or country artist is "branching out". It's totally encouraged for those musicians to stay put square in the middle of their scene and never experiment past listening to "Sgt. Pepper's". But if you do it in metal, you're deep or progressive or mature. Even the fans are so dismal... *big sigh* "oh, I just can't get inspired from this...this teeny, insipid, distorted music anymore. Nothing good has came out since 'Seventh Son'.." *sighhh*
