| I think it's because whatever they do it's really well done. You may not like the direction but you can't say it's not quality. | |

| I'm probably the only other person here who loves 'A Twist in the Myth', the only song I don't love on that is probably 'The New Order'. 'A Night At The Opera', on the other hand, I probably wouldn't even own if not for the last 3 songs. | |

It is a very disappointing album. I remember the huge debatest going on in the forums of the german rock & metal magazines...they gave that album great ratings, while all fans were disappointed. Though "And then there was silence" is amazing. In my oppinion, Imaginations from the other Side is their best album. It has the best of both BG-Worlds: Still some Speed Metal elements and the sound from their first albums, while venturing out to the sound they make today, more melodic and "epic". All the albums around this one (Tales from the Twilight World, Somewhere Far Beyond, Nightfall in Middle Earth) are great too. Even the rather goofy "The Forgotten Tales" (They cover Barbara Ann, Mr. Sandman and Surfin' USA on it, it's hilarious also it contains the really good cover of Uriah Heep's The Wizard)

I agree. Even I thought Night at the Opera was boring. _________________

| Given the varied responses (is there any Blind Guardian album which hasn't been mentioned?), for someone starting out with the band it might not be a bad idea to go for Memories of a Time to Come - the compilation which they released earlier this year. I'm not 100% certain of the tracklist but I think all the albums are represented on it, so it could give a newcomer an indication as to where to go next.
And put me down for another one who's not a big fan of A Night at the Opera. I'm actually a little glad to see that there are other people who feel the same way as all the reviews I've read have raved about it while I just couldn't get into it. There's nothing particularly wrong with the individual songs, but as a collection of songs it didn't really work for it.

I like it too! Never understood why it is so popular to hate it, not their best maybe but a solid album.

| I actually like all their releases to varying degrees. They haven't really let me down yet. | |

However, the rest of the album (while not at all horrible) never had me revisting it much. On the other hand, I listened to Nightfall almost non-stop for a week.
