YEP! I don't know why people like Nightfall so much. Its a good album but with all the things in between the songs and the change in their style it kind of made me loose interest. _________________

| This is how I rate all BG albums:
Somewhere Far Beyond - all time top 5 album for me, essential! 10/10 Tales From the Twilight World - Excellent melodic speed metal, 9/10 Imaginations From the Other side - very solid follow-up to SFB, 8.5/10 Follow the Blind - explosive debut for fans of early Helloween, 8/10 A Twist in the Myth - good come-back after the ANATO fluke, 7/10 Nightfall in Middle-Earth - vastly overrated. Some good tunes, but plenty of filler too, 7/10 At the Edge of Time - unrated as I've only heard it once or twice ----- A Night at the Opera - this one is a dud, best to avoid, 3/10

| I pretty much like all of their albums to some degree, but I would second (or third?) Somewhere Far Beyond and Imaginations From the Other Side as my favorites. They show a transition from their earlier speed-metal style to their later, more bombastic, power-metal direction.
The live album Tokyo Tales is an excellent overview of their early years, and like any great live record all of the songs sound better than the studio versions. One of my favorite live albums, I definitely recommend it.

| TOKYO TALES is a great live album were the play many songs from their early days. Also the live album LIVE is great, with more songs of later albums. | |

| I'd say listen to a lot of samples. I like A Night At the Opera but some don't. I do love their early to mid 90's albums best but all of them are great albums. | |

| Nightfall, sans the interludes (which occur at the beginning then every other track-and most of them last 30 seconds or less), is a completly flawless album IMO. | |

What this guy said. I've had a few other B.G. albums over the years but this one has been the only "keeper" _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Imaginations from the Other Side is their best.
It's only my all-time favourite album by any band ever.

| BG is a very consistent band. Their first 4 albums are total classics. They begin to branch out with Imaginations and Nightfall, culminating in a very symphony-driven sound with Opera/Twist/Time.
All great albums but for my money, the essentials would be Follow the Blind, Tales from the Twilight World, Nightfall in Middle-earth, and A Twist in the Myth.

| Interesting to see how opinions of this band's catalog seem to be all over the map. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| Yeah, I guess they've changed too much for some. Of course, it they hadn't we slag them for sounding the same every album. | |

| I agree Metalguy - People seem to love BG, but don't agree on their best. For me it's Nightfall In Middle Earth, which is my favorite metal album ever! | |

| I'm not really familair with them in general. I've heard some songs here and there and I have the 2 albums the singer did with Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth. But I'm hardly a fan.
Just thought it was interesting that opinions differ so greatly. With most bands, you can usually narrow it down to 2, maybe 3, tops when asked "What's their best?". Blind Guardian has about 6. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. None of the others really grabbed my attention, but I also haven't checked out the most recent couple.

good answer! I know a ton of people hated A Twist in the Myth but I thought it was a good change. Count me in the "hate" category. I haven't bought anything by BG since Twist; they just totally lost me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

good answer! I know a ton of people hated A Twist in the Myth but I thought it was a good change. I, on the other hand, think this is where they "lost it". Blind Guardian started getting way too progressive for me with A Night At The Opera. I like their earlier stuff much more. Like MG said, it's unusual for a band with this much tenure to garner such diverse responses regarding their "best". _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
