Stumbled across this band earlier tonight and it's pretty kick-ass.

I actually have the CD (from Divebomb/Tribunal), I had no idea it was rare.

Well, it's not rare now that it was reissued! This is an old thread from 2012 (and it was my first post, I think, on HoM at that) and before Divebomb reissued it in 2013, it was quite hard to come by.

Not that their songs were sci fi oriented, but Petra's More Power and NotW album art were damn wicked.
New TERMINUS is pretty much based on Isaac Asimov's Foundation books:
=====
DOCTOR SMITH, a conceptual space-opera:
=====
ANCIENT EMPIRE - Based on a story about an ancient alien race who used to live on earth and are coming back to claim the planet from the human race:
=====
THE OUTER LIMITS - quite self-explanatory:
=====
Last but not least: GENTRY LORD and their mystical magic trip through the mystiverse:
=====
Also the sophomore MORTYR album "Cygnus Alpha" would be a conceptual album based on Blake's 7 Sci-fi TV series, although we haven't started writing and recording it yet.

Here's a list of sci-fi references in music (all genres, not just metal), although it hasn't been updated in a very long time.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the most obvious one:
Star One - Space Metal
What sci-fi movie or show each song is based on:
Set Your Controls - Doctor Who High Moon - Outland Songs of the Ocean - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Master of Darkness - Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back The Eye of Ra - Stargate Sandrider - Dune Perfect Survivor - Alien Intergalactic Space Crusaders - Blake's 7 Starchild - 2001: A Space Odyssey and 2010 Spaced Out - Dark Star Inseparable Enemies - Enemy Mine
