| KIX have signed w/Frontiers Records for a live DVD/CD coming next month, followed by a new studio album in the near future (early 2013)! Cool news! I've been listening to these guys a whole lot lately, it will be great to hear new stuff from them after so many years. KIX Signs With FRONTIERS RECORDS For Live DVD, Upcoming Studio Album - Aug. 7, 2012 Frontiers Records has announced the signing of KIX. The return of the Maryland rockers will materialize with the worldwide release of the band's first-ever live DVD and CD entitled, "Live In Baltimore", on September 21 in Europe and September 25 in North America.
Since KIX's return to the national stage in 2008 with appearances at two of the biggest rock festivals in the U.S., Rocklahoma in Pryor, Oklahoma and Rock The Bayou in Houston, Texas , KIX has played a large number of successful live shows all across the USA, with regular appearances at festivals, casinos and biker rallys, culminating with headlining the hugely successful M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland two years in a row. The new live CD/DVD is packed with fan favorites and a choice catalog of great hard rock KIX songs recorded live in Baltimore, Maryland.
As the demand from the fans for new KIX music has never subsided and, in fact, has only increased over the last few years, the bandmembers have decided that they can no longer ignore the overtures from the fans and are writing new KIX songs for a new album, due out on Frontiers Records in 2013.
KIX singer Steve Whiteman stated: "This is a great thing for us and we hope it's a great thing for KIX fans all around the world. We are so thrilled to finally be able to give the fans what they have been asking for, a live DVD and new KIX music in 2013! We have been hard at work getting new material together that we think will stand shoulder to shoulder with any previous KIX record. It's a really exciting time for KIX!"
KIX lineup includes original members Steve Whiteman, Jimmy Chalfant, Ronnie Younkins and Brian Forsythe, with Mark Schenker on bass.
"Live In Baltimore" will be released in a CD/DVD configuration with the following track listing :
CD:
01. No Ring Around Rosie 02. Atomic Bombs 03. Lie Like A Rug 04. Don't Close Your Eyes 05. Girl Money 06. Cold Blood 07. Cold Shower 08. She Dropped Me The Bomb 09. Blow My Fuse 10. Kix Are For Kids 11. Midnite Dynamite 12. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
DVD:
01. No Ring Around Rosie 02. Atomic Bombs 03. Lie Like A Rug 04. Sex 05. The Itch 06. Don't Close Your Eyes 07. Hot Wire 08. Same Jane 09. Girl Money 10. Ronnie "10/10" (Solo) 11. Cold Blood 12. Jimmy "Chocolate" (Solo) 13. Cold Shower 14. She Dropped Me The Bomb 15. Blow My Fuse 16. Kix Are For Kids 17. Midnite Dynamite 18. For Shame 19. Brian "Damage" (Solo) 20. | Although I'm kinda blase with the live cd/dvd (although that's a cool setlist), a new studio release from Kix is awesome news !

| KIX was always WAY better live than in the studio, by a large margin. I'd be curious to see the DVD.

That's me too. It's cool Kix signed but I'm not big on live albums. So I guess Funny Money is done? _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Basically, if I have all the studio albums I feel like I'm paying money to hear poorer mixing, probably poorer vocals and a bunch of drunks in the background going "Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhh!".
There are exceptions (like UFO's Strangers In The Night) but I generally find live albums to be essentially a Best Of with crappy production and a bunch of fans cheering in the background and therefore a waste of my money. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| You've obviously been listening to the wrong live albums. Of course, most 80s live albums suck, so if that's your primary decade of music I guess I can understand why you might not be thrilled with what was available.
I also tend to gravitate toward bands that improv alot in concert, so the live versions are generally much different than their studio counterparts. |

| It just seems like a waste of money to me if it's a band I already collect. The whole "live vibe" just doesn't do anything for me.
And a REAL pet peeve I have with live albums is if it's comprised of miscellaneous cuts from random shows instead of one complete show from one location (are you listening Pink Cream 69?). I really hate live albums like that. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| The practice of pulling tracks from multiple shows has fallen out of favor (for the most part). The majority of the great live DVD/CDs that have come out in the past several years (Rush, Porcupine Tree, etc) are from a single show, mistakes and all included as it should be.
Compiling a live album from multiple shows almost never works (there are exceptions) because each venue has different acoustics and also because each live performance has a "personality" all it's own, so when you mix different nights together you lose the particular vibe of that gig.

| You may be on to something in that most of the live album I've owned in my life are from the 70s and 80s.
The notable exceptions of live albums I really love (like Beth Hart and Blackmore's Night) are all of more recent vintage.
BTW, SD, if you like Janis Joplin live performances you owe it to yourself to see Beth Hart's "Live At Paradiso" performance. That show is everything rock n roll is supposed to be; sweaty, sexy, sleazy and just simply outstanding. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I am stoked about this, Sweet!
As far as live albums go, I like them quite a bit, although I don't listen to them as much as studio albums. I like the improvisation element as well as just hearing what the band sounds like live. While it is my experience that a lot of live albums still tend to have fixes, they generally do not detract from the overall product. Maidens Rock In Rio Cd/DVD is one of my favorites.

| I think their are many many cool live albums released during the 80s. Some that come to mind just now are: ARMORED SAINT:SAINTS WILL CONQUER mini lp SCORPIONS:WORLD WIDE LIVE IRON MAIDEN:LIVE AFTER DEATH KROKUS:ALIVE AND SCREAMING mini lp MSG:ONE NIGHT AT BUDOKAN GARY MOORE:WE WANT MOORE and a long long etc... Anyway, about KIX, i have all their studio albums, some on cd and others on vinyl and most of them are good. They already released a live album in the past LIVE, back in 1993 but i am really waiting for a DVD. I hope they put their video clips on it too, that would be extra cool. | |

| For me, live albums is a mix bag. Some are great and some blow goats. I have noticed than on live albums from the 70's, the songs generally sound heavier. 80's - some great live albums mixed in with some crap (Live After Death, Worldwide Live). For the newer live releases, I tend to prefer to watch them on Blu Ray or DVD. The Scorpions have a couple recent great live Blu-Ray/DVD's (Wacken, Get Your Sting And Black Out). Of course, Maiden has stepped up the game with some great live releases since the turn of the century - Rock In Rio and En Vivo, which both sound amazing with the DTS 5.1 mix (especially En Vivo on Blu Ray!)
There are also plenty of crappy live/DVD release too. See Barren Cross's Hotter Than Hell which is barely listenable as a prime example. Fates Warning has a live DVD out from a few years back and it's pretty piss-poor too. Of course, the recent Queensryche live releases have blown goats big time. Art of live? More like the art of putting me to sleep. And Mindcrime At The Moore? Ouch! I HATE what they did to the original Mindcrime - No energy at all, it sounds like it's ready for Vegas and has lost the energy that a story like that needs when performed live. It doesn't sound dangerous, it sounds like a watered down version made for mass consumption and bland.....
I'm sure I check out the live DVD - Kix is still great live! Saw them back in May as the Friday night headliner at the M3 festival and they were awesome! Great show!!!!

| I am a huge fan of live albums and live DVD's, and some live albums blow away the studio versions IMO, toho mentioned Beth Hart, her live DVD is incredible, her studio release has never even come close to capturing the energy this woman puts out on stage.

| If anyone is losing sleep as to why original bassist Donnie Purnell isn't involved in this Kix reunion, here's your answer. Oh yea, and the possibilty of a new Kix studio album... - Quote :
- The American rockers, who enjoyed the height of their fame in the 1980s, got back together in 2003 with Mark Shenker on bass instead of Purnell.
And nearly a decade on, the singer says the band had no intention of ever letting the founding member rejoin. Whiteman tells Sleaze Roxx: “When Kix disbanded in 1996 I started a band called Funny Money. I was given a vehicle where I could write my own material, which was hard to do in Kix because Donnie controlled everything in that band. “There was a song Donnie and I had written that I wanted to release. I called him up so he wouldn’t be blindsided by it – and he tore into me. “He called me every name in the book. He accused me of using his name and his talent and said I was taking the song from him. It was the most unpleasant and nasty conversion I’ve ever had in my life. “Right then I decided I never wanted to go through that ever again. When it came time for Kix to reform, and we performed some local shows, it was our decision not to have him involved.” Whiteman insists Purnell’s absence was the only way the rest of the band could keep working together. He says: “Donnie would always add so much pressure to everything and it was just so unnecessary. “To be honest, I’ve never had a fan walk up to me and ask, ‘Where’s Donnie? How come he’s not involved?’” Kix have just released a live album and are considering starting work on a studio project, their first since 1996′s Show Business. “Funny Money was getting ready to record a new CD,” Whiteman explains, “So I had a bunch of material lying around. Mark has a lot of material and Brian Forsyth has some. “If we can get 10-12 strong Kix songs together for an album the fans are going to love, we’ll put it out. We’re back, and we’re going to be around for a while.”

| I find that hilarious, especially considering Donnie was the primary songwriter in the band for their entire existence and was obviously "in charge" of everything.
I also find it a bit suspect that the new bassist "has a lot of material" for the project, more proof that the rest of the band wrote very little during their heydey.
P.S. - Steve Whiteman is a great frontman and personality...but he's a total prick in real life.

| Bump... New Kix studio album coming in July... - Quote :
- Look for Kix to release their first new studio album in almost two decades on July 22nd, thanks to their new partnership with Loud & Proud Records. What makes the project even more exciting and anticipated is that the album features the band's original line-up -- Steve Whiteman (vocals), Jimmy Chalfant (drums), Ronnie Younkins (guitars), Brian Forsythe (guitars) -- with the exception of Mark Schenker on bass who takes the place of Donnie Purnell.

Bad album/reviews plus low sales, I'm sure, led to a dissolution in partnership. Seemed like an odd release for Frontiers anyway. Loud & Proud is a decent score for the band. That's owned by Roadrunner Records, right? I'd be interested in a new studio album. This live album was terrible though.
