Former Fleetwood Mac band member Bob Welch has been found dead after apparently committing suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 66. Police say Welch was found dead by his wife after shooting himself in the chest at their Nashville home at around 12:15 pm local time today. The U.S. musician had had health issues recently, according to police spokesman Don Aaron, who confirmed a suicide note was left.

Not real familair with the man, but a shame nonetheless. Seems like there has been a rise in musican suicides as of late.

Really sad. It seems that that version of The Mac doesn't get much respect.

Was he in their "transitional" period where they weren't a English blues band anymore, but not yet a pop-radio band?

I had French Kiss on vinyl when I was in college and played the crap out of it. I got it on CD several years back and most of it hasn't aged well but I still like Ebony Eyes.
RIP

I am not familiar with his solo material but the Fleetwood Mac line up he was part of, which was very short lived between 1971 to I believe 1974, has some of the best and overlooked era of the band's career.
He was not a flashy guitarist but he played with a lot of class and taste, the 'Penguin' album the 'Mac did during this era is highly recommended.

Sad news, my heart goes out to his family and friends.
My introduction to his music was the "French Kiss" solo album back in '77. I didnt even know he played in Fleetwood Mac until about a half a dozen years ago. I have a few Bob Welch era albums on vinyl.

I don't understand those last two posts.
So if someone famous commits suicide, it doesn't count as "tragic"? You're not supposed to refer to the deceased as having "passed away"?
That makes no sense to me. Everyone seems to consider the deaths of artists like Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain to be "tragic". Yet Bob Welch's death is somehow less important because he committed suicide. Didn't the aforementioned artists also commit "suicide"? Albeit in a much slower fashion. Except for Kurt; that one was quick.

Who said anything about it being less tragic or important?

I was agreeing with Eyesore's post in the sense that suicide is not passing away , when you say someone passed away it indicates that someone died at least for me of natural causes or illness. All death is tragic, suicide in my opinion is worse than tragic because you dont know why, or what drove them to that point where they felt like they had no way out. If someone was murdered you'd say so. I dont think your post was addressed to me Toho but I felt like I needed to clarify that from my Point of View

Suicide is always hardest for those left behind, my prayers certainly go out to his family. While I have nothing but pity for those who feel that suicide is/was their only resource.

I was shocked to have read this. I was looking for my past post - went to search - saw this - This was the first cassette Glenn in 7th grade played for me - and that I was influenced to buy afterwards - still remember that day - we were at Sally's house - skipped school - Glenn played the entire thing - as him and Sally kissed and laughed - RIP Bob Welch !
