Van Halen vs Aerosmith, the greatest American Rock n Roll Band

Van Halen - just because I'm a Van Halen fan and only like bits of Aerosmith.

I don't dig Aerosmith much past "Rock In A Hard Place" or Van Halen after "1984". I see each band having two seperate careers. The latter being somewhat more succesful than the first for both.

I really dig on early Aerosmith alot, but Van Halen came on the scene (my local one at that) and changed the approach musicians gave to both drums and guitar.

So as far as I care about either band it would be the first five of each band up against the other.

Van Halen/Van Halen II/Women And Children First/Fair Warning/Diver Down

and...

Aerosmith/Get Your Wings/Toys In The Attic/Rocks/Draw The Line

So I peg it at 3 to 2, with Van Halen barely beating out Aerosmith on album 4 vs 4.

I like the next few releases from Aerosmith quite alot....Live Bootleg, Night In The Ruts, Rock In A Hard Place, and even Done With Mirrors. Afterwards, it just wasn't the same band that I grew up with. Same applies to Van Halen with Sammy

I'm pretty much the same. I go as far as PUMP with Aerosmith, and up to 1984 w/VH. I never cared much for Hagar as a solo artist before he joined VH, so when he replaced DLR I pretty much walked away from'em entirely.

Don't even get me started on the Van Cherone album. Still haven't heard the DLR "reunion" disc but in my book Aerosmith have released more strong material than VH overall.

I've come to appreciate the Van Hagar years, but I still spin more Aerosmith these days. Even their 90's output is getting fresh spins from me.
