| I wasnt sure where to put this thread as I hope for some really good feedback but Im going to be cataloging my library and would like suggestions for a good free program to use or if you use a spreadsheet how you did your template, since I have some time on my hands and in the middle of settling into my new place I thought this would be a good time to undertake this momentus task
Help and suggestions welcome
Thanks | |

| Rate Your Music
This is what I use, it works just fine for me. It's got a wishlist, collection (cataloged by format), and a review system.

| RYM is a good one. I was going to use the AudioVideoDB program but I gave up on it. I forgot which audio forum I got it from. | |

| I am using the same excel spreadsheet that I came up with in the late 90s. I have columns for artist, title, date, format and comments. That's all on one tab. I have other tabs for wish list, acquired by year, and music dvds. | |

| I use rate your music as well. I tried doing a couple other things but RYM is the easiest. It also has all the different releases for whatever album. _________________ | |

| Back when I still used Windows I loved this program called "CATraxx" which is a very powerful music database with all the bells and whistles. It's not free, but for $39.95 it's a bargain considering what all it can do. You can check out screenshots and information at their website:

| I use RateYourMusic too, and to keep it old school at home I just have a list in Microsoft Word on my desk top that I update when necessary.
...which reminds me, I gotta add my new Joey Ramone CD to that list. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| RYM for me too, here's mine:
http://rateyourmusic.com/~orioncrystalice
one of the best features about RYM is that you can catalog different releases, e.g., if I have a Japanese SHM CD, I can catalog that instead of the normal release, or I could catalog the obscure re-release that came out 5 years ago..etc.

| Hey OCI, welcome back.
As for me, I just use an Excel spreadsheet. One tab for "haves", one tab for "wants" and another for "trade fodder". Works good enough for me.
A few years ago, I went through the job of catalogging my collection on a free website (CDTracker.com I think it was), then one day, *poof*, the website was no more. Gone. I lost everything I had in their database. Now I keep a copy of my spreadsheet on my computer and do my updates on a flash drive for transfering. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I used to know what I had Hit a used vinyl shop nowadaze and I come home with something I already have in most cases. At least that gives me a nice square to hang on the wall in my den or out in the shop. _________________
