Very technical, fast, abrassive thrash metal. Not quite as abrassive as Vengeance Rising, but far more technical. I think there is a Believer MySpace with samples.

Like MC said, by importnace, influences, number of albums sold etc. all of the big four deserve to be there.

I quite agree. I think Vanity/Nemesis is a brilliant album. I guess it was too 'clean' lyrically for most hardcore Celtic Frost fans, but it's actually my favorite. Then again, what do I know, I liked "Cold Lake" as well.

i've never heard anyone bad mouth Vanity/Nemisis... only Cold Lake (which i also liked). however i've never heard Celtic Frost described as speed metal either.

That's their only album I would ever slap the speed metal tag on!

I tried for 15 years to like Believer but in the end I had to be true to myself. That technicality is what kills it for me. They are one of the few Christian bands from the early Christian Metal days that seem to get a lot of love in all circles so I'd keep going back to them thinking I was missing something. I just don't like all that spastic start-stop going in a million directions thing. I prefer the much more straight forward stuff....

Actually, mc666 is right. I openly admit that it's my Christian upbringing and beliefs that have affected how I feel about Slayer's music. What can I say? It's just part of who I am.

I was a huge Anthrax & Metallica fan before I became a Christian in the 80's. Anthrax were basically local boys, so I felt an attachment to them. Metallica blew me away early on with "Whiplash", etc. I got into Megadeth a few years later and became a bigger fan at "So Far So Good So What." They were just the bands I was into. I got into Slayer early on as well. Bought "Show No Mercy" as a new release when I was in high school. Loved it! However, as my review states, their lyrical ideas bothered me, so I never became as big a fan of them as Anthrax, Megadeth and Metallica.

I think Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer deserves to be called the big 4, based on what they once were, not what they have become! (except for maybe Megadeth)
Personally I would have put Death Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Sodom, Kreator, Artillery and Dark Angel high on my favourite Thrash act list!

And I used to love Reign in Blood and Seasons In The Abyss, and I can certanly see that they deserve being amongst the big 4. They sure have had the influence alright! But, as ult said, the lyrics didn't sit well with me. I just have no need to listen to someone try to do their utmost to talk thrash about someone I consider to be my Father. I still have a gazzilion other Cd's to listen to. I know other bands have songs with the same lyrical contents as Slayer. Heck, Overkill have lyrics like "Deny The Cross2 and "Stone Cold Jesus". But then I can use the skip-button. With Slayer I'd sit back with maybe 2 songs per album!! :lol
