Before today, I only knew "Reelin' in the Years" and I was content with that, but I'm enjoying it much more than I thought I would.

Metal On Metal, I think you'll like "Countdown To Ecstasy" and "Pretzel Logic" even more, Can't Buy A Thrill is a great album, but they really solidified their sound on the next two albums.

If you like guitar, check out "Bodishattva" on Countdown To Ecstasy, that's a burner.

My advice is to give the "Aja" album a listen. If you enjoy that one, I think you'll enjoy most Steely Dan.

My exposure to Steely Dan was much like your's except I grew up when the Aja cuts were all over the radio. Give that album a spin and see what you think; if you dig it, Steely Dan is up your alley.

Almost 20 years of jazz listening helps me, I probably listen to Steely Dan much differently because of it. The arrangements particularly interest me.

The ABB was my first band to noodle an interest in jazz. They had that improv thing while Steely Dan had this sort of pop sensability to it. I can only listen to jazz while I'm driving on long trips. I can't handle the busy-ness of it and appreciate the time sigs otherwise.
