This is quite an enjoyable album and could have been in my 2011 top 20-30 had I gotten it before I made my list.



I like Åkerfeldt's voice and don't mind there not being death vocals, but this was for the most part a boring album. It had some good parts but way to many slow parts some so quiet I could barely hear them. Maybe if I listen to it without outside distractions in a mellow mood and noise canceling headphones, I'd like it better but upon first listen it's the second Opeth album in a row to dissapoint me.

That's called "dynamics", something very few hard rock/metal bands even know exists, but is common in other forms of music, Classical being the most obvious.

Music should be listened to without distraction when possible, an album like this isn't geared to be "car driving music" or "doing the dishes" music, it's a meditative album that requires your full attention.

I figured it was something like that. I'm not too sophisticated in my music tastes. Mine are more simple (of course not to the point that I can enjoy boy bands and sappy, crappy modern day pop music-I have my limits ). I very rarely just sit down and listen to music anymore. I just enjoy music better when I can incorperate it into my daily routines.
